  1. most disagree with her on this board, but it was a solid post. most of those bands are kiddie music nowadays to the mtv punk generation.

Your basic knowledge is based only on the mainstream. You're only naming mainstream pop-punk but the scene was much more than those bands you saw on MTV. Like it or not Blink 182 is probably the most influential pop-punk band of the last decade. "Kiddie music nowadays"? that's your opinion not a fact.

Oh man, you've really done it now. I can hear panties bunching right now.

  2. Alright, you're really getting on my fucking nerves. Your releases are $12 or $13, good for you. Like $2-$4 is some kind of huge difference between you and someone charging $15-$17.

Considering that SST still charges 8.97 for a record, thats a pretty big difference, but thats just me playing devil's advocate.

No, you're right. I want my vinyl as cheap as the next guy but I hardly think it's crazy or out of line to pay $15 for an album.

  3. It's sad really. Kids are always talking about how much they love this band or that band and that they'd love their album to be on vinyl. Then someone like ETR comes along and presses it but does so in a shady way, sometimes without getting bands input or their blessing. The band feels wronged and kids have a "don't give a shit" attitude about a band they supposedly love, but now they have the album on vinyl, so who cares.

The trend of $15+ single LPs is amazing. There is no reason that a single LP should ever be above $15. All the new labels are doing it and kids happily pay it, which is insane. If none of you bought it, then they would be forced to lower the price.

Diabretic, your retorts are the dumbest fucking things I have ever read. How many threads have you read where people are complaining about a $12-13 LP? None because it's totally reasonable.

And "everyone has to make money"? Really? Some of us labels actually care about music and bands and want to release something sustainable and affordable. Isn't the point of music being released so that as many people as possible can hear it? A $17 single LP does not accomplish any of those things.

It's just funny that you guys always have to stick up for labels like ETR and the others. If they weren't doing shitty things then no one would be saying things to them that people would need to defend them for.

  4. the problem is you haven't told us which record you bought...

A first press of Native's We Delete; Erase on Clear Orange. How's that for some cheap record... Payed a handsome sum of money for it.

You never should have gone on the offensive. Now the wolves smell blood. If you just stay cool, you'll usually get backed by someone. And regarding your original post, there's really nothing to be done. Vent it out in the terrible sellers thread and hope for the best.

  5. Well the 180g black should sound better because of the weight, right? I mean why else would AFS make it the most rare variant unless it sounded better. So in theory if I were going to sell one it should be my other copy?

There is absolutely NO chance this is real.

  6. okay guys. here's the thing about 180 gram.

first of all, they're usually not actually 180 gram. sometimes they're close, sometimes they're not.

*i know most of you know this, but the grooves aren't any deeper in a 180 gram record. the less music you put on a side, the better the grooves will be.

*there's a bunch of other things that affect sound quality before the weight of the record, such as...

    -length of side

    -deepness of the groove

-what the original recording source was (mp3's, cd, analog recording, tape, etc)

-direct metal mastering vs. analog mastering

    -recycled vs virgin vinyl

-the plant doing it (some plants just make better sounding records than others)

    etc etc etc.

yes 180 gram feels nicer to hold etc, but you know academy fight song isn't making their most rare variant on 180 gram black vinyl because it sounds better, they're doing it because people will pay the money for it.

go ahead and listen to one of their 180 gram black LP's (such as one of the copeland records) and then listen to one of the thinner color copies of the same record. tell me there's a difference. then (and i'm not trying to toot my own horn) listen to one of the brandtson records i put out that were mastered PROPERLY and tell me the 180 gram black was worth the money.

i have 180 gram records that i know were sourced from mp3's that sound like complete crap. i would be much more interested in what the vinyl was pressed from, rather then the weight of the finished product. most records these days are just pressed from a copy of the retail CD.

as far as warping goes.... i guarentee you no melted piece of vinyl with grooves in it is going to be perfectly flat. turn tables are supposed to play records with slight warps with no problem. that's one of the reason the arm goes up and down. if the record is really warped, there was either no quality control at the plant or they got too hot at some point.

180 gram is a gimmick and nothing else. if i have an option between 180 gram or regular for the same price, i'll take the 180 gram because i know it cost the label more to make. but i wouldn't spend the extra just to get a little extra weight in a record that will sound exactly the same.

    /end rant

I'm not trying to argue or anything, it's just that I don't think anyone expects 180g to sound better than 140g. It's just a matter of appreciating a thicker record. They're nice, and it's not really a gimmick if there's a benefit, which is that there's less chance of warping. I don't need the rare variant cover of some comic books either. The story isn't any better, but they're nice to have.
