I agree w/ this along with a lot of other things said here.  I think it's funny that people are distinguishing between AF and the National...They run in such similar circles.  

Personal preference at a show for what you decide is more enjoyable aside, AF is super tight very similar to RH.  Incredible musicians who are always on their mark.  Seen them several times...Never sloppy.

There's an industry kid who lives across the street that comes into the shop everyday.  Apparently he was doing work in the same studio that AF recorded the new album and he got a preview of some tracks.  The only thing he was missing from his analysis was the KY.

Yeah...Sorry if that's annoying, I'm pretty new to the whole social networking thing.  I paid an initial $15 out to try to get people in the door.  Throwin pasta on a wall, etc.

I believe one of the board members the other day came in looking for Synchronicity.  I just found a sealed copy in my pricing box.  I'll put it aside for you if you're still interested.  If not no worries.  

Picked up Beastie Boys Hello Nasty 2xLP. And yeah like PunkGuy said really nice dudes. I think they may have put up a pic of me and my wife somewhere.

Don't know where that is.  Might have gone to instagram?  The other owners took it and bounced.  Next time I see them I'll find out.

Big Big thanks to everyone who showed up.  It's really a used collector's store at the moment- which is still cool because that's nowhere around here- but it's going to grow and evolve.  There's about 15-20% of our total inventory that's in the store.  A lot that still needs to be priced and put out, and more bins are still being built.   Plus we haven't even gotten to new vinyl yet but that's coming.

Best of luck dude. I am working in a brand new record store that opened recently in my area, it was slow going at first but growing steadily.

There is something to be said for that

Saying it's just not your thing is one thing, but to actually DISLIKE the Beatles is being purposely contrarian.  Amongst a million other great qualities, they are one of the few career bands that actually continued to get better with each release.  No one else has ever come close to doing that for as long of a duration as the Beatles did over 16 albums.

I can't recite track listings on each album but I can tell you they are fun albums.  Sure the early shit was bubblegum corporate B.S. but you can't use that argument from Rubber Soul on.  Sgt. Pepper's opening track, I Want You (She's So Heavy), and Don't Let Me Down are 3 later edition amazing guitar songs regardless if they were released then or in 2013.  If that shit was released today we'd all be calling it a better Tame Impala.

I come from a perspective of finally sitting down a few years ago, getting with the times, and actually going through their albums so if I didn't like them I could articulately define why.  Rejecting a band's quality due to the public's overly positive perception is the equivalent of disliking a band because they're not popular.

My receiver is hooked up to a two speaker/subwoofer for a computer.  Sounds great...I guess I'm a happy idiot.

I'm currently using two Gothic Cabinet Craft towers (NYC based custom wood shop) but I really like those expedit shelves.  May end up switching if I ever see them in person.

Made a RS trip yesterday.  In terms of record store owners I went 5 for 5.  All BOSS and look forward to stopping in each of these again.

Pittsburgh

Jerry's Records- Probably the largest record store I've ever been in.  Never been to Amoeba, but their one main room is bigger than anything I've ever seen.  They have at least 3 rooms.  ALL USED.  Not that I'm a beacon of knowledge by any stretch, but there had to be at least 50% of the rock back catalog that he had index cards for that I had never even heard of.  Boxes and boxes everywhere and a GREAT guy who's been doing it a long time.  Tennis shoes, mesh shorts, and a big Jerry's Records t-shirt on a dude who's been doing it forever...Classic.

75% of the 45 boxes on the back wall are nothing but picture sleeves.  Not 45s w/ pic sleeves....JUST pic sleeves. 

Sound Cat

Nice little store of maybe 500-1000 new titles and maybe 200 used.  Has an equal amount of CDs.  Reminds me A LOT of Repo Records in Philly.  Carl is a GREAT guy.  Really liked meeting him and I bought a bunch of goodies including a couple of Nobunny records in the used bin.

Columbus

Lost Weekend

A perfect example of how Columbus has quickly become a hot bed for vinyl (there's about 14-15 stores in Cbus now all right on High St.)  One man band who takes a ton of pride in his inventory and works it.  Good smattering of new and used with reasonable pricing.  Also has his own label of which I picked up their 3 7"s.  Honestly I was in such a hurry to hit so many stores and I enjoyed the owner so much that I ended up probably spending more time bullshitting with him than diving for gems.  One of the nicest and most engaging record store owners I've ever met.  Bar none.

Spoonful Records

Another good local shop specializing more in new vinyl.  His prices are a dollar or two more than LW but that makes sense given his location is right near center city.  I didn't get the owners name as I felt a little guilty for not finding anything I wanted to buy, but he was a really good dude as well.  I'll stop in there again

Used Kids Records

Another big huge used record store most similar of all the above stores to Jerry's but the bands/titles aren't near as obscure.  They also have a significant section of new.  Has 15-20 linear feet of new arrivals that could be new or used.  Picked up a couple of rare Beatles records and a copy of Sonic Youth 'Happiness Is a Warm Gun.'  Nice find.  Of all the people I spoke to, I probably spoke with Gary at Used Kids the longest.  He shared a great story with me about how they bought a trailer full of vinyl recently and once they started going through the receipts that were in the piles of inventory they discovered that the whole truckload was from a former customer/hoarder who had defaulted on the truck storage. 

NOTE- Every single owner said this year's RSD was great and that it was better than last year's which was everyone's previous best.  Seems to just keep getting bigger.

Got Turbonegro's "Apocalypse Dudes" with the alternate cover for 20 bucks today. Looked it up and found it at 100 on discogs, so that was a no-brainer.

Well if you're not there by Saturday you'll miss Sound Fix which is closing.  It's a Shame...That was a great Brooklyn store when it was on Bedford.  Got shoved out by a new high rise and the new location- only one block down- killed the biz. 

Record Grouch in Brooklyn is a great store.  A ton of obscure 60s-70s psych rock.  Small store but still more selection of that genre than any store I've ever been to.  They also have a nice little rotating new arrivals bin.  Scored some good stuff in there.

Theres a new record store in brooklyn i went to earlier this week where they had literally about 75-100 pic discs up on the wall. Largest selection ive ever seen.

Pretty tough to find a record in there- new or used- for under $20. I was out of that store within 5 min.
