  1. Please don't shoot the messenger, but this video discusses the transport in your turntable: I have a friend that uses that type of turntable (A crossley cruiser), but she only plays cheap records she buys at Goodwill. I would never let that needle touch a "good" record. I have a lot of old 45's out of jukeboxes that I might like to play on that as a curiosity, but that is because they are already pretty much destroyed. I'm really sorry, because that is a pretty TT you have there and it's all in one. Frankly, if it had a decent cartridge and tracking force, it would be fine, but those really are not good for records.
  2. I rebuild those as a hobby. But I gut the electronics and "maybe" the speakers depending on the sound I want. If the finish is in relatively good shape and you live in an urban or suburban area, you may be able to get something in the $50-$125 price range out of it, but plenty of people are giving them away just to get rid of them. Completely restored it can be worth over a thousand (or two) dollars to the right "collector". But that's after a LOT of hours have been put into it, hence the value. It seems to be a nice clean mid century design so that's a plus. I'd only fix it if you wanted to completely refinish it and maybe throw in electronics (and maybe speakers if you don't want "vintage" sound) and use it yourself. Otherwise, offer it cheap or free on craigslist. If the finish is severely damaged or shot, free is all that will work.
  3. The information is confusing. The only input a turntable has is the cartridge - at the end of the tonearm. And the only output it has is almost always a couple of RCA connectors. If it is a moving magnet cartridge, this must be plugged into something that has a MM turntable RCA input. It sounds like your record player is part of a system that has Aux, Radio and Tape inputs as well as a built in turntable. The speakers are connected via two connections for each speaker. They usually take bare wires. Each pair of connectors connect to the end of a wire much like the wire in an extension cord. i.e. one large wire with two separately insulated wires in it. Bluetooth speakers are designed to be driven by something (a phone or iPad) that sends a wireless bluetooth signal. Your old system will not have that. They also have on board power. Your old system isn't designed to connect to powered speakers. It powers "passive" speakers. Many of us can help you out if you supply some raw model numbers (or pictures) of the connections on the equipment you own.
  4. I used to sell those. I coveted it big time. I only ended up with something different because, at the time, I was overly mesmerized by separate tonearms. But that was my favorite TT in our store.
  5. I use the discwasher I purchased in 1977 - with water. To deep clean I use warm tap water, cheap shampoo/conditioner combo, and one of those paint trimmers from Home Depot. Here is a picture of one of the ones available: I don't bother protecting the label because it's really not exposed to that much water. I scrub in both directions for about three revolutions. I recently used this method to clean about 200 45's and the results were startling. They are now in nice, new sleeves and I now respect my 45 collection. With 33's, it is equally amazing. They become "new". The bristles really get to the bottom of the groove and really dig everything out with no damage. Only stuff embedded in the vinyl and any wear remain. This is why it didn't help my 45's from juke boxes. They were simply worn out. BTW, water kills static.
  6. This is my first post. I'm hoping I'm not violating some obscure by even mentioning this so I'll leave the site name out of it. Based on utter nonsense I was "aggressively" banned from a very popular turntable site that has a huge archive of information about turntables. So I searched vinyl record forum and found this site. I read the rules and liked what I saw. So here I am. BTW, by "aggressively", I mean that the entire IP at my very large company could not even see the site - at all. That is, the entire IP was banned from even reaching the site. One of my workmates (who was also a member) was ticked.
  7. At the turn of the century I used to pull all nighters playing online WW II flight simulators. But to this day the only video game I play is Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour. I still love that game. And it's from 2003. I sometimes play GTA, but my MO is to steal cop cars and just drive like a maniac until I finally go down in a hail of bullets.
  8. Forgot to answer the questions: Real name: Rob Favorite Bands: Genesis, Renaissance, Pink Floyd, What's your Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr etc.?: I dumped all social media Hobbies (outside of record collecting): I moved from Seattle (home for 46 years) to a 32 acre farm in rural Kentucky in 2011. My main hobby is working the property (mowing 9 acres), clearing trails, collecting firewood, etc. I just finished a 30x60 shop that includes a 16x30 "mancave listening room" that I'm finishing as I type this. Though I've done a lot of 200 mile bike rides and bicycle commuted in the Seattle area for over 20 years, My bike has not been ridden in months. I'm too busy to just "physically work for fun" these days. I am getting into restoring furniture and vintage stereos and hi-fi's, though. That's one reason I wanted the shop. Play in a band? Run a record label? Link us!: I've played/sung in a dozen bands, but only play in Church now. Random things you want us to know about you: I don't want to return to my home planet! These last 573 solar years have been the best days of my life and this is by far my favorite assignment. Hiding in plain sight is tons of fun. But at the end of the day I'll just lay it out thusly: "I wish they all could be Beta Prime Secondary planet 23 girls!"
  9. A certain other site finally got on my last nerve and I needed a place I could post to other ADULTS without worrying about the Kiddie Pool rule hammer being brought down. So I searched "vinyl record forum" and found this site. I really like your down to earth rules. They actually seem to promote adult posting. They are the reason I became a member. I sold hi-fi between 1976 and 1982. I put my turntable away around 1993 and brought it out again around 2004 and resumed the hobby with a vengeance (I now have three turntables and just under 3,000 albums). Looking forward to discussing hardware, vinyl and music with the crowd here.
