  1. Here's an article I found.

    http://www.usatoday.com/money/media/2007-02-21-vinyl-usat_x.htm

"But vinyl still accounts for a small percentage of music sales. Last year 858,000 LPs were sold, compared with 553.4 million CDs, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

While the 2006 figure was up slightly from 2005, the overall trend has been down from 1.5 million in 2000.

Ashworth believes the data are skewed, though, because a lot of vinyl is sold in mom and pop stores not reflected in the SoundScan numbers."

In my opinion, thats not enough sales for a major chain to pick up on vinyl. I'm still surprised Hot Topic sells it. The only chain I've ever seen carry vinyl was Tower in Philadelphia and it was mostly hip-hop (which I'm sure is the genre that makes up the 2006 figure)

Does Vinyl Collective post with SoundScan? Interpunk? That could make a huge difference in the numbers.

  2. i rarely download. trying to find a record at a high bit rate is usually a pain, as the norm seems to be 192kbps. if i want to hear a new band, i'll usually just use myspace. i dont have to download anything, and 2 or 3 songs is usually all i need to hear to know if it's worth checking out.

not to mention im jaded and old, and i miss the legwork in finding out about new bands. this whole concept of having a music "collection" by clicking your mouse rubs me the wrong way.

I'm the same way, I almost never download... and if you're band can't win me over in 3 songs (which is more or less the length of a 7") then why would I want to download your whole freakin' album?

I remember when the only way to discover new bands was if a friend told you about it or if you bought a comp. I miss those days.

  3. I heard there are a few that have matt skiba's blood with a splatter on white, super rare ;D:o;):-X

Not to change the subject, but in high school a friend of mine said there was an American Nightmare (give up the ghost) 7" that was actually blood splattered. Just wondering if there is any truth behind this kind of stuff.

  4. I agree with loren, about 8 months ago I picked up a pretty cool cell phone/pda that has video/mp3/photo/web etc. It was exciting at first but just like with everything, it gets old, I now treat that thing like a regular cell phone and am completely unimpressed by it's wide variety of features. I bought a 1 gb card for it, put a bunch of music on it, and listened to it maybe a couple times.

In my opinion, you gotta keep 'em seperated [insert offspring riff here]

Also, all apple 1st generation stuff sucks anyway

side note: anyone else hear about the Philadelphia mayor waiting in line for one and then leaving after enduring insults by his fellow citizens? or is that just a rumor?

  5. Primarily Guitar - Epiphone G-310 - Sunn Head and Cabinet circa mid 1970's

Bass - Dean Playmate EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass

Drums - some no name kit my brother bought in high school, tama snare, sabian cymbals.

Drum Machine - Alesis SR - 16 - not really an instrument but it was hardwork learning how to program it to do anything you want so I'll count it. I recomend buying and learning if you record on your own.

I can also play keyboard, I'm not a pianist or anything but I know what I'm doing. I have an old vintage synth I bought off a friends dad, the name escapes me but it looks really cool.
