  1. A fair trade to me, is if there is a huge HWM fan on here, and they don't get ahold of this, they trade me something that they think it's worth it. I'm not out to get money, and I'm not out to get some ultra rare pressing of a record, but I just want a HWM fan to get a record that would probably be very special to them. As long as the trade justifies the price and the effort to get it and all that jazz, it's fair to me. I'm not trying to make money or trade for a Full Collapse test press or anything, seriously. Just trying to help out some people that don't live in the cities that HWM is coming to

I think what you are saying is that you are acting as middle man, and would expect a little compensation for it. It's OK if you don't ask for a record over a hundred dollars, but something in the $30 to $40 range is OK (this is how I read "what a huge HWM fan thinks it's worth".

If I am reading correctly between the lines, what you are describing is no different from selling on ebay, but it's just to a lesser degree. You are still taking a profit to deliver the record from band to buyer, when if no one did anything like this every record bought would go to a HWM fan without the cost of middle men.

I'm not passing judgement. I've bought, sold, and traded for profit in the past. I'm just saying I don't see that much of a difference between buying to sell on ebay and buying to trade. Trading records you bought for yourself but didn't end up wanting to keep is what is truly benevolent.

  2. Here's what I don't get about it. Everyone seems to think it's okay to buy one just to trade, but not just to sell. What's the difference then if I were to trade it for a record that's worth say $85, or just sell it for $85? If I use the money I make to buy another record, isn't just like trading for one?

Yeah I was just going to ask falloutcollapse what he thought a "fair" trade was. Is it for a record worth $20, or one worth more?

  3. I am in agreement that these ideas are awesome.

I like almost all of the bands mentioned for the 7" series. Teenage Bottlerocket is a must!!!

I like the idea of investing, but something troubles me. What percentage of buyers from the vinyl collective store are "regulars" that post on here a lot. I am worried that all the investors would make up something like 70% of VC business. Thus, the majority of the profit VC would be making would be off the investors. If this was the case this just turns into the pitch in to press vinyl records idea. It's kind of tough to explain, so I hope I did an OK job. I still like the idea, but am just trying to play devil's advocate.

  4. My opinion is that the decision rests with the band. If they want to make special covers to commemorate a show and only press enough for the people who attend those shows, then limit the buying to one copy. If they want to sell them at the show but also allow others who don't attend to have a copy, then press extras and sell them on the no idea store.

One option is more "special," the other is more profitable. I don't think it's right to only press a small amount and then sell people 5 copies.

  5. outside of this board, i havent really seen this band talked about much though. so i think the hype is pretty contained.

and impact - no i dont have any more og pressings of that. i just sold the last one (of like 7 or 8) like 2 weeks ago. i had one up pretty much every month.

oh well. good luck to whoever is bidding!

They've got a really good following on punknews.org, which is much bigger than this site. Still, I get your point. They haven't crossed into "mainstream" independent bands yet.

  6. i had no idea that sink or swim was in demand, or out of print or whatever. i have a bunch of these. i put the red/white one on ebay this morning.

i dont think i ever sold one of these in the distro. no one ever wants records until they arent available anymore.

I'll be watching this one. There is so much buzz around this band, but no one selling yet. I'm curious about how much this goes for.

  7. how about vinyl collective puts out a 12" comp of people from on here with bands who couldn't normally afford to put out vinyl ourselves. make it a true collective effort...each band maybe contribute something like $200 and get a fair share of copies. slap vinyl collective on the front and promote the site/msg board/community and our own music at the same time. i dunno just an idea... heck if there would be people interested in this i would put it together and do the work myself if i had to.

this is actually are really awesome idea. our recordings wont be done for another few weeks. but i am sure nate would be down.

are there enough people with bands on here where we could make this happen??? I am sure there are people on here that may be willing to contribute with artwork / screen printing jackets to help off set the cost??

I'm not in a band, but I could contribute an acoustic Queers or Lillingtons cover. (I only mean this only semi-seriously. I've never played outside my bedroom)

  8. That is around the number I guess at. Even if only 120 were sold at the 4 shows, that is less than 50 left, and I think they blew 120 out of the water last night.

I don't think they will have any for the Jersey shows.....

Damn. I slept on this. Anyone going to the jersey show who would be willing to help me out? That's assuming they are not all gone.
