  1. Hey guys, I am trying to help a friend out and clean up his turntable for him. First thing I did was go to adjust the counterweight and noticed its bent downwards. Did not think much of it until after I set the proper tracking force and went to set the needle down onto a record, it would keep moving around and to the right. I looked up a couple videos on this table and did not see any that had a counterweight bent down. Found the same table on eBay but what do you know, that counterweight is also listed as damaged and bent down also. Im assuming this isn't something that can be fixed and it just needs to be replaced. Anyone know where I can get a replacement arm and a dustcover also(its missing one). I have pictures but I am not registered with a site where I can upload them. I have them posted on another forum though if you guys are able to view it, here's the link https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/help-with-parts-for-marantz-tt2000.1046100/
  2. oh boy, thats an extremely detailed answer. thanks. i want to look into this further. and what fun would google be when we have awesome forums like this🍻
  3. Hey everybody, so im new to vinyl as of this year and have watched countless videos and read a decent amount on cleaning solutions. I was hoping to share my diy solution/cleaning methods that I've developed and see what you guys think. So I will start off by stating that I did buy a record doctor VI and I had started cleaning my records with only the solution and brush provided with the record doctor. This got the records a bit shiny but didnt seem to help with surface noise and removing grease/stains/finger prints off the record. I knew I had to use something more abrasive to scrub with so I ended up buying one of those trim painting pads. That still didnt seem to make much of a difference so I started looking into mixing my own solution. I will also state that I use 2 tile suction cups on the records now and then i spray with my diy solution over my slop sink in the basement, scrub with the painting trim pad going with the grooves, and then rinse with distilled water. Then finally, i take it to my record doctor and vacuum dry for the final step. I have been using this same method with every solution I mix up. So the only thing thats changing is the diy mix. The first solution I mixed up was 1/3 of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 2/3 distilled water with a couple drops of dawn dish soap. This seemed a bit better than what came with the record doctor but still didnt seem to clean the records as well as im seeing in videos on youtube and such. So after that bottle was used up, I moved on to using Witch Hazel which some old hippie at a record shop in NC told me about. I figured why not give it a try. 2nd solution now turned into 50% witch hazel, 50% distilled water and a couple drops of dish soap again. I added a bit too much soap this time as I was getting a lot of suds lol. Still rinsing with distilled water and then vacuum drying. Again, not getting rid of grease and other markings on the records as i had hoped. 3rd solution I now have is 50/50 of distilled water and 70%isopropyl alcohol but im now adding some jet dry rinse aid. This seems to be the best mix out of the 3 so far but im still not getting the records as clean as i know they can be. Im thinking that Im not leaving the solution on long enough and i may need a new scrubbing tool. I pretty much immediately begin scrubbing after i spray it with the solution. So what do you guys think? I will say that using the jet dry has caused me to have to use a lot more distilled water to rinse with now. Im thinking that I can actually rinse with water to get most of the mix off and then finish with distilled water. I don't see the use in wasting a ton of distilled water when im vacuum drying after anyways. for some reason that jet dry is making the records harder to rinse off. Do you guys see a problem with rinsing with water and then finishing with distilled water?
  4. Hello all, just got into vinyl and am pretty frustrated. i have some vinyl that sound mint with very little noise at all and some that are pretty staticky. some of the static is pretty audible while the music is playing also, which is the really frustrating part. The records actually look mint too, cant see any visible markings or anything so i thought they would of sounded pristine. i was thinking maybe its my stylus or something but im not sure thats the case as some records sound perfect and others don't. bought the record doctor iv and i thought it would of solved it but nope, they sound the same. all the reviews on it made it sound like people were discovering a whole new record as the sound difference was drastically different. im not sure if im doing something wrong but as far as i know, when your done vacuuming the records, they are supposed to be dry. am i not vacuuming long enough? putting enough cleaning fluid down? pretty frustrating because i just bought my first original pressing on discogs of guns n roses use your illusions 1 and 2. they look mint and the seller listed as vg+ but the static just ruins it. not sure if i should send him a message or if im just not doing something properly. running a pioneer pl 518 with a shure m97 era iv. it came with the table when i bought it and the seller was the original owner and said it didnt have many hours with that stylus. i took my jewelers loop to it and it looks ok from what i can tell. but i just don't see how it could be cartridge/stylus related when some records sound mint. please help, im ready to send this record doctor back to amazon tomorrow because it has literally had zero effect on my records that are staticky.
  5. hey guys, i found this on facebook marketplace near me. She's asking $200 and it has the Vinyl attachment. Here are the links from amazon. Do you think its a good deal at $200 or even good at cleaning Vinyl? https://www.amazon.com/VEVOR-Ultrasonic-Commercial-Professional-Stainless/dp/B083KFSNG2/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2RYKUCMRKVYPL&keywords=vevor%2Bdigital%2Bultrasonic%2Bcleaner%2B6l&qid=1675197237&sprefix=vevor%2Bdigital%2Bultrasonic%2Bcleaner%2Caps%2C89&sr=8-4&th=1 here is the attachment for cleaning the vinyl https://www.amazon.com/WEWU-Brackets-Ultrasonic-Descending-Auto-Drying/dp/B07TVLY7HS/ref=pd_lpo_2?pd_rd_w=p6grh&content-id=amzn1.sym.116f529c-aa4d-4763-b2b6-4d614ec7dc00&pf_rd_p=116f529c-aa4d-4763-b2b6-4d614ec7dc00&pf_rd_r=M6778XD71S38BET5EWC2&pd_rd_wg=Bp9D4&pd_rd_r=1739fa37-a7a6-49fd-b2d4-b591f1438754&pd_rd_i=B07TVLY7HS&psc=1 those 2 together are over $300 but i actually see another all in 1 from the same manufacturer for $206. Not really sure what the difference is between the 2. https://www.amazon.com/Happybuy-Ultrasonic-Cleaner-Stainless-Cleaning/dp/B07L3G9TBS/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3FKDLZ0WOJSKD&keywords=vevor+digital+ultrasonic+cleaner+6l+vinyl+attachment&qid=1675197363&sprefix=vevor+digital+ultrasonic+cleaner+6l+vinyl+attachmen%2Caps%2C82&sr=8-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.f5122f16-c3e8-4386-bf32-63e904010ad0 what do you guys think? if there is an all in 1 option for $206 i think i would be silly to pay the same price for a used one, although its not the same exact thing. but at least this one would be brand new and i could return it back to amazon if anything is wrong with it. the lady on marketplace is moving and very firm on $200.
  6. so i have a gift card for amazon and was wondering if anybody had some suggestions on what to use to clean vinyl records? i know there are washing units but is it really necessary? or can i do well with a solution and some micro fiber towels
  7. thats what i was thinking too, thanks for reassuring me.
  8. Is it crazy if I payed $600 for a Marantz 2230 that hasn’t been serviced at all? I know somebody who is selling his dads but based off others online that have been serviced I think $600 is high. thoughts?
  9. any updates on how you are digging the evo? im thinking about picking one up as i have a gift card to an electronics store that stocks it. this will be my first turntable ever?
  10. thanks for the feedback. at this point i am going to work on getting a turntable and use it in that room with a preamp and a long run from the preamp to the receiver. i am going to look into some vintage amps(marantz 2230b😍) and other vintage speakers for the basement. basement will be rennovated in the near future so it gives me time to get educated on some vintage gear and what to look out for.
  11. Thank you very much. After reading that thread, I think I might just buy everything and set it up in my lil studio room. Doesn’t seem too complicated to buy only a phono preamp and then some long auxiliary cables to run to my current amp, but It’s still a 30’ run going into my crawlspace and up to the amp, and I’m just not sure I wanna do that. We shall see.
  12. I guess the short question should of been…am I able to run a 30-40ft cable from my turntable to my amp?
  13. Hello to all, just got some records for christmas (tom petty wildflowers anniversary, fleetwood mac rumors, and pink floyd dark side of the moon). im in the us and my mom said the fleetwood and pink floyd records are coming from the uk so they haven't arrived yet, not sure why she bought them from the uk though. anyways, i have no turntable and have read the beginners thread which is very very very helpful i must say. My question is that I already have a 5.1 surround setup in my family room with an amp which has a phono connection. Marantz nr1609 and I also have Klipsch Theater Pack surround speakers. here's the links https://www.marantz.com/en-us/product/av-receivers/nr1609 https://www.klipsch.com/products/reference-theater-5-1-surround-sound-system so i guess the problem is that i have a free floating entertainment center which houses my amp and center speaker. there is no room on top of the entertainment center to put a turntable as there are shelves and a tv on it. i have a crawlspace under this room and thats how i ran my speaker wires for the rear surround speakers. i am assuming the only way to use a turntable with this setup is to run a really long connection from the turntable to the amp using my crawlspace. turntable is gonna have to be in the rear of the room. probably would need at least a 30-35ft connection as the room is a 22ft span. my other option is to buy everything and set it up in my lil studio room where i play guitar and record some things. i just feel like i have great equipment in the family room that should be utilized if possible. plus we can utilize it when we have company over.
