  1. i like their dedication to news sans some shit bands beyond that i don't get into the boards at all... 1'st five isn't much better for news either, clearly they have better people writing for them but the news aspect is slacking big time

I agree that 1st Five is lacking in news, but it's staff of 5 on a site that made 15 dollars to cover our bills last year vs a staff of 10+ that has funding from a major blogging network. However I appreciate the read and promise we'll be getting better on the news posting front as the year goes along.

And say what you will about Jason or his fanbase AP has done a really good job of still presenting every kind of music to the people who read his site. The kids who read his site aren't just getting swoopy hair emo and screamo stuff, they also cover bands like Touche Amore, Animals as Leaders, My Heart to Joy, etc etc. They get props from me for that.

  2. it's not really piracy, sure maybe it can be boiled down to that, but the point is clearly to play games he already owns by modifying something else, it's like modifying a laserdisk player to play CDs, sure it's not the original usage it was designed for, but the intention is to multi-purpose something to use something else he already owns, not create bootlegs

He's wanting to mod his Xbox so he can run emulators. He has no interest in playing SNES cartridges on his Xbox. (i.e. not the same thing)

If this was about playing SNES cartridges, he'd go buy an SNES. Which are slightly more expensive, and require you to actually pay for games...

(Edit - So re-reading that, it came off a bit negative. I personally don't care what people do with their old Xbox. But if you're gonna make an arcade with a bunch of pirated games out of it, don't beat around the bush about it.)

I have an SNES, NES, Genesis, N64, PS1 and somewhere at my parents house a NEO Geo. This is about not wanting to have 6 systems on top of a ps3 and xbox360 cluttering my house and making my wife's life easier when she wants to game since she's retarded with anything made after 1998.

  3. Suggesting to purchase the games when it's been established that piracy is the goal is kind of silly. If anything you'd buy a wii with this purpose in mind to mod it as it's the easiest system to mod.

On top of that, the newer 360s are still pretty easy to mod.

If you have a PS2, specifically a thin PS2(way easier to mod), you could just burn DVDs with full Rom sets with emulators and play them on that. Other than that, it's been so long since I modded mine, but I'll look around.

Basically. I mowed a shit ton of lawns to play these games. These have been earned.

  4. If you're getting it JUST to play old school nintendo games why not just get a used Wii or something? They sell tons of SNES/NES etc games on the wii store. I've got a few games loaded on mine including Super Mario 3. I imagine you could get a wii for really cheap anyways since it's the worst system out right now haha.

I've heard that the newest 360s are harder to hack and trying to do so can just ruin the system anyways. Microsoft has a thing for bricking your electronics from them if you try to do something they don't want you to.

It's an OG xbox and it's a cost thing. I can get a xbox 1 for 30-40 bucks and a wii still runs me a hundred plus rebuying all those games for 5-10 bucks a pop. Screw that I bought them already.

  5. So I'm getting an xbox to mod so my wife can play SNES, NES, etc emulators on the big screen without having to set up a bunch of old school systems. I know Kirby has done this in the past but probably some of you guys have also. Could you point me towards a easy to understand tutorial for either hard or soft moding? I don't have a mod chip but I've got a computer with ATA harddrive which someone once told me at a bar could help. I've googled but I've gotten a lot of different answers and I'd like to go with one I know works.

    Help?

  6. I agree w/ this.

There are still a ton of great music videos being made. My girlfriend and I love watching music videos and I try to queue a few up in YouTube and we watch them in bulk on the TV.

I post a fair bit on Tumblr and Twitter when I find good ones, but that's one of those scenarios where you have to know where to look.

    Thanks Kirby!

  7. yea all those dicks over at apple...

When you charge a premium for everything you sell and loudly shout that it's the best product available it is a dick move to make people paying for the "best" to pay even more for very very very basic things.

The fact that the Macbook Pro comes with what amounts to a glorified text editor as it's out of box writing solution is bullshit but why stock a PROFESSIONAL COMPUTER with something so basic when you can nickel and dime your fan boys and make them spend even more money after already dropping over a grand for the most basic model.

Or why make it so you can easily transfer the most basic kind of data storage to your iPad when you can nickel and dime your fans by making them buy yet another bullshit adapter.

    Those are dick moves.

  8. With all the blogs and such, would a throwback MTV even serve a purpose? I mean, really. I can keep tabs on whatever scene I'm into across multiple continents with a few clicks of the mouse.

People that want to listen to music and have an interest in hearing new and exciting things (NOT referring to Arcade Fire here...) will find a way to regardless of what anal seepage MTV passes off as entertainment.

MTV should just fuck off entirely.

Blogs are useful for the people who know to look for them. The point of the article is that the channel used to provide a service for the kids who weren't born with their finger on the pulse of the world like Bradley. It also addresses that while most of what they played was mainstream pap they also made time for bands from the underground w/ things like Headbangers Ball and 120 Minutes and those shows opened a lot of doors musically for those people. The internet is fantastic, but it's also bottomless.

  9. Loki, some routers don't always work well with macs.. unfortunately. the only thing you can do is take suggestions from people regarding certain wireless routers that do work. most do, but there are those few that for some reason have slow connection speeds (like mine at the house). I only know this because i get top speed at my volunteer job, and at my last place of residence. here not so much with the router we have on hand.

Ended up having to change some security settings and I'm back in bizness. Thanks for the advice all.

  10. its not one specifically for mac...like it will still work on PC, it just might not be optomized to work the best with mac. they arent expensive, just get one that works well with mac. if your internet still goes slow, just return it, that way you at least know its not your router thats the issue.

Far enough. I think it's just the idea of spending more money after dropping 1300 on a computer that's supposed to be a god out of the box makes me itch. What do you use? Or at least do you have one you'd recommend?
