  1. Friends, Family, Media, know a guy who knows a guy, etc... Same as it ever was.
  2. The issue isn't with the actual VIP, it's with the gallery giving access for the VIPs to buy up all the good stuff before the show starts. Of course a VIP is gonna take advantage of the situation when offered a chance.
  3. Happens all the time in the world of art collecting. Lots of originals and high demand prints sell to VIPs at Mondo Events (who don't need to wait in line) before the doors open to fans who have been waiting in line for days. Not much different, in fact worse.
  4. Producing albums does not necessarily mean you're an artist that plays an instrument. Your problem is that you're confusing the 2 by trying to combine them. The dude who produced Phish's last album. Well respected in the industry for decades. Can he play guitar like Trey? If he did he'd be selling out amphitheaters across the country for the last 15 years, wouldn't he?I don't even think Spacewolf was even close to God's gift to the bass (That title is likely reserved for Victor Wooten or maybe Jaco Pastorius). I really don't care who RA decides to put on bass to be quite honest with you as long as he/she sounds like they know what they're doing. I feel like the rhythm section has been stipped down to extreme boredom with his new band. No interesting fills just bland and really simple and basic. If it's a matter of how Ryan wants his songs to be played then it's not gonna be as entertaining a live show as it's been with his other bands in the past.
  5. Sound Engineer does not necessarily equal great on an actual instrument. We're hearing the same things here. There's been a fair amount of chatter about his new band not being very good right now on other boards so it's definitely not just coming from me.
  6. Don't forget that it took basically an entire day at the event for any of the event copies to sell out. If you're gonna be pissed that you didn't get one and now there's gonna be an online drop, news flash, IT'S YOUR FAULT YOU DIDN'T GO TO EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE CON. If you want to hear a bullshit story about things selling out at a convention, I was the very first person at a print booth the very first day of the Chicago Comic Con and the Art Gallery I made my way towards had already sold all of their copies of the print I was after to the "Media VIP" that was given an hour's access before the general opening to walk around and take pictures for their stupid blogs that nobody reads. It's not like there were only 1 or 2 prints for sale either, there were fucking 30 of them.
  7. Freeway is the only one I like from him. Didn't like the fact that they played it at every single show during the latter years of the Cardinals era but then again I don't like it when ANY song gets played at every single show. That said, he's a very good guitarist, more than suffice as a backing vocal, more than held his own during difficult improvisational sections and DIDN'T write all of Ryan's fucking songs... The dude is an actual musician who actually had/has a legitimate career before and after Ryan, not just one of his amateur hour weed buddies that he's currently touring with.
  8. Wait, don't you know? He wrote all of Ryan's songs while he was a member of The Cardinals. He's also wrote all of Ashes & Fire, an album that isn't held in any higher regard than Cardinology or Easy Tiger. If the new S/T album sucks, you can blame Neal for that because he will have written that one too. God, some of you Neal fluffers don't know shit!
  9. They haven't. I'm assuming it was mentioned to said "source" at the Mondo booth by whichever emplyoee is manning the booth.
  10. I wouldn't feel too bad for the SDCC attendees who have hoards of opportunities to flip a variety of SDCC Exclusives. They can still double dip on the online drop if their little hearts desire.
  11. PSA: Just read somewhere that Mondo has held back copies of all the Batman TAS vinyl releases for online sale so you guys should probably stop flipping out and paying eBay prices until after that happens.
  12. There were definitely some overboard fanboys on RAA, not gonna deny that. Some shit was downright embarrassing at times too. Though I think the general feeling over there by most was just trying to act in a manner that would help preserve the awesome gifts (recordings) that we were given by RA and Joel (and other tapers). I met some great people through there too, that I still keep in touch with to this day. Isolated incidents aside, both of these RA boards are probably given an unnecessary rap, TBH.
  13. Why? 1/2 his posts are in defense of me trashing his ear for music, haha.
  14. I think RAA is a bit different scenario since Joel was ultimately running the show there and was granted access (for a long time) to Ryan's SBD for recording purposes. I certainly don't blame him for allowing material to be posted on there that would offend Ryan (since he would obviously lurk there from time to time). RAAs show archives were an absolute treasure that I absolutely ravaged while it was still active.
  15. Should I care that you want to block me? Go right ahead. First time I've ever noticed you post anyways (probably because I don't frequent the Blink 182 thread) so I'm really not gonna miss any of your whiny contributions.
  16. I worked on slicing up and tagging the mp3s from last night's web stream. If anyone is interested and you're not a turd, shoot me a PM.
  17. How in the world do you remember that idiotic screen name?
  18. I enjoy learning the new songs through this recording. The renditions of his staples are simply lackluster and that's putting it nicely. They need a lot of work.
  19. I'm not shocked in the slightest that you're lacking an ear for musical talent. You ever pick up an instrument before? I seriously question that. It's obvious they have either rehearsed very little before the start of this tour and/or are just not very accomplished musicians to be backing a musician as high up in the food chain as Ryan is.
  20. Just look at my number of down votes. I could be the biggest asshole on this board, so honest members of TBY certainly don't bother me. I generally shy away with being "honest" about his music because I absolutely love that he's willing to jump ship, take risks, push boundaries and always try to move forward with his career. RAA was obviously a more encouraging place to share those thoughts so that's kinda where I happened to fall and form internet relationships w/ other RA fans. That said, I can't help but say something about the group of musicians he's currently touring with, mainly because I'm just not seeing a whole lot of talent here.
  21. I'm definitely willing to give them more time to "figure it out", just hoped he had come out touring with a more accomplished group of professional musicians.
  22. Actually I don't have that asshole attitude towards his music. Generally I'm a huge supporter of every single thing he does (even The Shit, Werewolph, you name it). I'm originally part of the RAA fluffer crowd and have stayed away from TBY for years mainly due to what you're accusing me of being. Since RAA has been down for a while I have turned to TBY, mainly for news and updates and such. But let's be honest here, his new band is rough as shit. I mean the drummer sounds like he just graduated from a Fisher Price kit. They even admit this is like the bassist's 3rd ever concert performance and it definitely sounds like it. The backing vocals leave a ton to be desired. The 2nd guitarist and keyboardist are just OK. Bottom line is I'm glad he's playing concerts with a band again but there is absolutely no way his new band is gonna make us long time RA fans forget about The Cardinals.
  23. Here's (most) of his touring band, minus whomever is on the keys. Mike Viola - Guitar Charlie Stavish - Bass Freddie Bokkenheuser - Drums Here's a stream of last night's show. http://www.npr.org/event/music/332030079/ryan-adams-live-in-concert-newport-folk-festival-2014 After the first few songs I think the band should be named Ryan Adams & The Amateur Hour Oh how I long for the days of "shitty" Neal and The Cardinals... Hopefully these clowns get better by the time I see them in October. Oh well, at least it ain't gonna be a solo acoustic tour.
