I spent a couple hours adjusting my Dynavector 10x5 on my Scout yesterday and today. Mostly, trying to get the VTA set just right. If you have a Vpi and ever thought about getting a Soundsmith counterintuitive weight, do it. It makes adjusting tracking force and VTA a breeze.

After all was said and done, I figured I would spin a record I know very well Sigur Ros's Ágætis byrjun. Holy Shit! I was hearing things I had never heard before and had goose bumps most of the record. Staralfur sounded just amazing. My wife even commented on when the guitar was playing that it sounded as if they were in our living room. With only about 15 hours on the cart, it continues to soften and get more dynamic. The 10x5 is an amazing value for the money.

My Dynavector p75 mkII is supposed to arrive tomorrow, very curious how it will change the sound versus the built-in MM phono stage in my Nikko 9095.

With what I've heard about Rise Above shipping, I expect this to be on my doorstep in 20 minutes.

I wish I had a dealer closer, just for this reason. Really the only reason I chose the 10x5 because I wasn't able to demo any other brands and the dynavector is highly regarded. In the end it worked out, well so far. But, if I was dropping any more money I would have waited till I could do a proper demo. In the end it's whatever sounds better to you.

Got the new cart mounted today. Definitely more detailed, even without any break in.

So do you also clean each record after every play as well?

probably a stupid question but do you guys run new records through these record cleaners? it seems just a nice brush would do and use the cleaner on second hand and dollar bin grabs. just curious because i'm interested in this after watching youtube videos...haha

Absolutely. New records still have the mold release solution along with dust and debris from the pressing plant. I clean both new and old records before they hit my turntable.

I have a Vpi 16.5 and can say 100% it's worth the cost. You probably won't find a better deal either.

Haha, nope one of my favorites. I was talking about the 2009 reissue. Terrible popping and clicking through out the first disk. But I did buy it second hand, so who knows.

Thanks Shaizada! At the moment I think I'm just going to stick with ordering a 10x5 from another retailer. I have heard many great things about matching my phono stage the P75 mk2 with dynavector cartridges. I want my first upgrades to be a solid baseline, a known good if you will. That way when I start playing with different cartridges and phono stages I have a quality combo to base them off of.

My current cartridge the ortofon red gets lost and seems jumbled with complex music. I never really noticed it before. I guess my ears are learning, haha. Definitely, time for an upgrade! Thanks again for your feedback.

Well, I just got an email stating they were out of the Dynavector 10x5 and they suggest replacing it with a Soundsmith Otello.

Anyone have any experience with the Otello?

Got to order my Dynavector 10x5 today for my VPI Scout! Found a deal for a Dynavector P75 Mk II the other day also. I really can't wait until they arrive!

All of the records I have ordered directly from the Sigur Ros store have arrived unscathed. Even the ones that came from Europe. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hopefully, this ends up being less noisy than my DMM copy. Even after a thorough cleaning it still had noise, nothing crazy but still distracting none the less. Plus it's CLEAR!

So I bought both the outer sleeves and the disk keeper inner sleeves. Haven't tried the new inner sleeves because I haven't had time to clean any of my 10"s. I'll posting some picture later of the outer sleeves. They are really clear which is cool, they almost disappear on the covers. But there is no way I would be able to fit a double disk or gatefold 10" in any of the 7 sleeves I have used so far.

I just ordered some of the sleeve city ones off of Amazon. They fit really tight...to tight for me. Should have just stuck to the bags unlimited version.

I picked these up yesterday late and set them up and listened to maybe an hour of music. So far I'm kind of meh about them.

I just realized that they're 8 ohm and I have them hooked up to the 4 ohm outputs on my amp, so fixing that may help. I'm not sure how broken in these are. Supposed they weren't used much. Maybe they need to be broken in more. I thought my out-of-the-box Monitor Audio RX1's sounded horrible until they broke in fully. I dunno.

Have you had anymore listening/break in time?

I've gotten a handful of the silver presses they've been doing for the anniversary and been pretty happy with them.

They've been doing it more since they started the 'Rehabilitation Project'.  The 12" reissue of Cave In - Creative Eclipses has pressing info too.  I'm too lazy to look for other examples, but I know there were others (think Boris & Merzow had numbers too).

yeah...  I have been on a vinyl siesta for a minute. Just haven't seen since pressing info since the early 2000's, haha.
