Yes! It's finally November! This month and the last are easily my favorite time of the year. Just incredible around Wisconsin, and I love the cold.

The header image this week is courtesy of my Mom, who knows how much I love Halloween... and also knows how stressed & busy I've been. So she carved a pumpkin the day before Halloween for me to put on my porch this year. Thanks, Mom! Yeah, I know Halloween was a week ago, but it's still harvest time and I refuse to take pumpkins off the porch until they rot and melt, or are destroyed by neighborhood children.

Lots of good stuff here this time around. Good news all over the place and lots of great records to jam on. Dig in deep, my friends.

I. ALRAUNE PRE-ORDERS SHIPPED

alraunecolors.jpg

At long last, here we are. The Alraune records are finally done and all pre-orders have shipped. I'm caught up on general mailorder through 10/23 right now, and will be packing up all other pending orders this evening. Thanks so much to everyone that waited so patiently. You guys are the best. I hope you enjoy some of the bonus goodies I included in all packages.

Not many copies remain, the last of them are available to order now at the Gilead Media online store: http://www.gileadmedia.net/store.

II. NEW GILEAD MEDIA RELEASES FOR WINTER 2015
Now that everything is settled with all of the 2014 Gilead Media titles I finally feel comfortable releasing some information regarding the next batch of releases I'll be working on for early 2015.

RELIC59 - Implodes - Reverser 12"

implodes-web.jpg
I first came to know of Chicago's Implodes when my old pal and founding member Matt Jencik sent me a link to check out their demo a few years ago. The dense forest of fuzz, reverb, and delay in which they reside is was something I was immediately super into, and it's been great to watch them evolve as a band through their two full-length releases with Kranky, Black Earth in 2011 and Recurring Dream in 2013.

Now, in 2015, I'm honored to finally be able to work with Matt (live bassist for Slint and Papa M), Ken Camden (two solo albums on Kranky), Emily Elhaj (of Angel Olsen's band and also of Mayor Daley), and Justin Rathell (of Chicago band El Mejor), to release a new EP containing two unreleased tracks from their Recurring Dream session and two newly recorded tracks.

Implodes weave through that lush fuzz forest with a river of somber rhythm, carrying subtle melodies along the way for the listener to latch onto. Simply put, this is rock music, but it's rock that is rooted deeply in the worlds of drone and ambient.

Reverser will be presented as a 33 rpm 12" with a download code included. Limited to 375 copies on various vinyl colors. Details forthcoming. Projected release date: January, 2015.

RELIC63 - Generation of Vipers - Coffin Wisdom LP

govpromo2-web.jpg

It's hard to believe three years have passed since the release of Howl & Filth, Generation of Vipers' prior full-length. It's an album that has only managed to improve with age, and I find myself more into it with every listen. So, naturally, when the opportunity was presented for Gilead Media to work alongside GoV and long-time friends Translation Loss to present a vinyl edition of their new album in North America, brilliantly titled Coffin Wisdom, I didn't hesitate for a single moment.

For all the love and affection I have for their last effort, I still wasn't prepared for the impact of Coffin Wisdom. Engineered by bassist Travis Kammeyer and mixed by Andrew Schneider at Translator Audio in Brooklyn, NY, these seven new tracks display a focusing of power. Harnessing influence, maturing as a creative force, and crafting their most fully realized works thus far.

Generation of Vipers define a musical amalgam. A bit of metal and a dash of hardcore blended with hefty dollop of noise-rock. It's obvious there has been a focus placed on developing a real tone in their sound, and it's pushed right to the forefront riff after riff. Coffin Wisdom is thick, and it's a total sonic assault.

Coffin Wisdom will be presented as a 33 rpm LP with expanded artwork, released under license from Translation Loss records, the label that released the CD in October. Pressing info to be determined. Projected release date: February, 2015.

RELIC65 - Fórn - The Departure of Consciousness CD (ltd edition)

fornpromo-web.jpg

I was first turned onto Fórn  earlier this year when my old friend Andy texted me after a tour, suggesting I check them out, that they'd be right up my alley. A few weeks later I saw Vendetta was releasing a vinyl edition of their debut LP, The Departure of Consciousness, so I snagged some copies for the store and was totally floored.

The Departure of Consciousness is an enthralling debut. Throughout the album, the listener navigates despondent atmospherics met with completely apocalyptic riffage and scathing vocals. This is an album of bleak and blistering works laced with somber melodies.

Now, many of you that've been following the label for a while know I rarely release a CD, but I was so taken by this album that I felt like I needed to work with these guys in any way possible. The Departure of Consciousness will be presented as a single disc in a mini-gatefold LP style jacket, with artwork by Bryan Proteau and limited to a quantity yet to be determined. Every copy will include a screen-printed patch. Projected release date: January, 2015.

III. IN THE STUDIO: FALSE

minneapolis3.jpg

In the middle of October I took the five hour drive up to Signaturetone Recording in the Twin Cities of Minnesota to spend time with False while they began tracking their first full-length album. Set for a Summer 2015 release, this new record will run roughly sixty minutes long over four sides of vinyl, with a potential CD format release as well. Believe me when I say the this album will be worth the wait, indeed.

III. LARGE DISTRO UPDATE
I do this to myself every month, I let the new arrivals stack up until I'm totally overwhelmed, and then blast them all into the store at once. Well, at least it makes for awesome e-mail updates like this one! Go jam out on some records. It's the end of the week, you've once again made it through to Friday. Congratulations, treat yourself.

The dudes at HammerHeart Brewing Company in Lino Lakes, Minnesota have announced their Winterblot festival, a tap takeover and metal festival taking place at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis on December 20th. The lineup is insane and they will be brewing an exclusive fest-only beer for the evening! The Gilead Media crew will be there with the distro (amongst other labels), so you can enjoy some drinks if you so desire, see amazing bands, and grab some records, all while hanging out in one of my favorite cities on this continent. Check out the teaser video below for audio snippets of all the bands playing, and grab tickets at the link!

Winterblot 2014 lineup:
Wodensthrone (UK)
Falls of Rauros (ME)

That's all for this week's update. There's always more distro stuff pouring into the online store throughout the month, so be sure to follow Gilead Media on whatever social media junk you like to use. I have one of those ello things now, too. Although I haven't posted there too much.

Oh yeah, if you have a copy of Breather Resist - Charmer LP or Malady s/t LP for trade, let mek now. I need those back. Talk soon!

Until next time...
