areii Posted January 18, 2015 Share Posted January 18, 2015 It looks like I'm finally going to get my first setup on Thursday, a Technics belt-drive turntable model SL-20 and a Realistic Amplifier/Tuner model STA-2700. I have three main questions. 1. The last time it was used was two years ago, but it was in working condition. I assume I'm going to need a new cart. Any suggestions? 2. Do I need a preamp with the amplifier? 3. How would I go about painting the plinth of the table? I don't know if I'm comfortable taking the thing apart yet, but would I need to? A quick google search says there is a phono channel. 3. Do not take it apart if you don't know what you're doing. Remove the platter, paint around it, if you must.
