wngu86
So I'm looking to majorly upgrade my setup. I've had an Audiotechnica LP-60 running with computer speakers (please don't judge it was a gift and how I first started) for the last year. I am a noob. I have no other equipment. I'm looking for a sub $1000 turntable. The selection at the stores I've seen are limited. I've narrowed to the Pro-ject carbon RPM 5 new for $850. I do love the look if it. I also scoured used ones and found a VPI traveler v1 3 years used with Ortofon 2M red cartridge for $725. I'm leaning towards the Traveler but would like some input. Any pitfalls to buying used and what are things I should look for when buying used? Any recommendations for a receiver with phono input ant bookshelf speakers in $ 500/500 range are also appreciated and yes I did read the beginner's guide at the top of thread. Thanks in advance
kannibal
Make sure you research the Travelers. I'm a VPI fan, but if I remember correctly the first run of the Traveler had a couple of issues that were corrected with subsequent models. That may not matter if the TT has been used without issue for the last three years, but it worth checking out. Also, depending on use, it may be a good idea to get a new cartridge, or at least get a new stylus.
