slymer
How do I hook my turntable up to my reciever if my reciever does not have phono inputs? Can I just plug it in to a CD or VCR input?
chubbler108
You need to buy a phono pre-amp
slymer
thanks. Are these pretty cheap?
chubbler108
The cheapest one I've seen is the Berringer for $25 (Canadian), and I've seen them for over $10,000. The one I have is $50. It's the Art DJ II. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-DeeJayPre-II-Phono-Preamp?sku=180641
boizee
...but what if it has a built-in preamp? Where can it go then? I've wondered this myself.
kyle
...but what if it has a built-in preamp? Where can it go then? I've wondered this myself. If your receiver has a built-in phono preamp there will be inputs on the back of your receiver marked PHONO. If your receiver was built after around 1990, it won't have a phono-preamp. If it does have a preamp its a line-stage equalizer, which isn't for your turntable, so you'd need a phono preamp.
cj
alot of amps dont come with a built in preamp... go to radioshack or the source by circuit city or whatever its called and get a pre amp, youre going to need a set of red and whites to connect the preamp to the amp and then your turntable plugs into the preamp... the best place to put it is the tape input because chances are you dont have a tape player
slymer
thanks, i'm going to pick one up after work today
cj
yeah no problem... probably set you back 30-40 bucks with tax... plus you need the red and whites so try to think how long youre going to need them to be

If the turntable itself has a built in preamp then you can plug it anywhere with RCA input.
