xjustinxschwierx Posted January 1, 2009 Share Posted January 1, 2009 Hey, I'm going to be co-releasing a split 7" in the Spring between Shot Baker from Chicago and Serf Combat from London. It'll be a co-release with Home of the Brave Records (Jon from Serf Combat's label). While not a new concept the theme to this release is a friendly Chicago vs. London throwdown! I Which each band has one new song and one cover, but the twist is that the bands cover a band from the opposite bands city, So, Shot Baker cover (the post Sex Pistols band) the Professionals and Serf Combat cover the Bollweevils! I got the Serf Combat songs in the mail today and their indie/jangly-pop influenced punk rock has left me with my jaw on the ground. They really stepped up and delivered a great original song (amazingly titled) "King Shit of Fuck Mountain"...then what they did with the Bollweevils song "Talkpeople" is awesome! They slowed it down and dragged a very Pegboy-esque rhythm out of it. They completely re-invented the song in the best way. I've only heard a very rough unfinished version of Shot Baker's original and still untitled new song(written specifically for this split), and, even in it's raw form it's one their best songs yet! And at the time when Tony played me the new song, he hadn't done the vocals for the cover, but They recorded, "Join the Professionals" so I'm still waiting to hear it too! I'll let you know when I hear the finished versions of their songs! (I should have the master in hand from SB in a week or so) then this will go straight out to press! update: they covered Cock Sparrer's "England Belongs to Me", and their original son is called "I'm Not ok" We're doing a first pressing of 500 copies on this one, 400 on black and 100 on color(if color at all...since half of these are being shipped over seas, we kinda have to keep expenses low)...this split is also a meant to instigate a Shot Baker / Serf Combat UK tour in the summer...so all you UK kids, get on board now! that's all I have for now! have a good night everyone!!! -j. But its sold out so I'm not holding my breath Anyway, everyone buy this 7" when it comes out. Shot Baker does not get enough attention.
