pj
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PSLX250H-Turntable/dp/B00005T3XH So, I have had this Sony PS-LX250H turntable for something like 2 or 3 years now, and in that whole time I've kept my turntable at home since my dad has a home audio system, in which i hook up my turntable to his receiver. I want to bring this to college with me in a few weeks, and when i graduate college in a year I want to officially move out of the 'rents house...but i don't want to buy a receiver and speakers. I would much rather hook them up to nice headphones, but there is no headphone jack. So what are my options?
melikecheese
you got one easy and cheap option, RCA plugs that will go into your table, then convert to a headphone jack, just keep in mind your table has no volume so you might want headphones with volume control. Your table has a built in pre-amp so you should be fine with this. http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Stereo-F....928848 &sr=1-
pj
Thanks. What is a pre-amp anyways?

melikecheese
It will be like the worlds biggest discman! lol, awesome, pictures of this situation in my head are funny. A pre-amp is something that boosts your volume level. Lets say your table outputs sound at 3. A pre-amp might boost that to 6. Then when you hit the speaker its already louder cause turntables sound output is very quiet. Once hooked up to speakers you can crank it to 11. pj
and i don't think they will go into my table. because there's just one cord coming from the back that have those red/white plugs...so how would those plugs go into this device? pj
okay okay. i'm looking around now. so if I wanted to use my headphones i would need either a different end piece to that, or some sort of other piece that my headphone jack would plug into? i appreciate your helpfulness with my technological illiteracy.. pj
now directed to anyone: is this really my best option though? considering the whole volume issue? is there any other options to consider?
melikecheese
Yes, the cable you need has RCA female plugs on one end (female cause its like a vagina) and then a 3.5mm INPUT, which may be also be called female.

pj
how is that turntable anyway? I've never had a different one to compare to. But on my parents system, it sounds great. I'm pleased. Quality. Gee wouldn't live be great if it had a headphone jack for me though?

sgoodcore
alright, thanks "melikecheese". you have been very helpful. now directed to anyone: is this really my best option though? considering the whole volume issue? is there any other options to consider? What I'm trying to do with the same table is setup a set of powered speakers. That's certainly another option. Any suggestions there? I have some 2.1 "computer" speakers I could use them but they have a headphone input so I'm loathed to do that.
