thomas
Every since I moved back home it seems like the sound from my music and TV seems to more upstairs then it used to. The only difference is that this time I don't have a curtain at the bottom of the stairs. Installing a door at the top of the stairs in a no go, since my cat's litter box is in the laundry room next to my room. I was wondering how people in apartments or a basement room like me deal with it. I was thinking of putting a heavy duty curtain at the top of the stairs, and another one down in my room to try to block out some of the sound so I can listen to my records louder at night when everyone else is sleeping. thomas
I'm not a big fan of headphones since I wear glasses, they push on my frames and make everything uncomfortable. My ears are also oddly shaped, so earbuds don't fit or sound good. My budget is whatever it takes I guess.

danthemjfan23
i mean, i guess it would solve your late-night problem. but who wants to listen to their stuff with headphones during the day when you want to crank shit up? nobody. that's who. mattstrike
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/106884/diy_guide_to_soundproofing_a_room.html?cat=6 A place to start… Building a "room within a room" is the best way to do it.
Guest kissthesharks
If you can get a hold of some carpet squares, that can help a little. Back in high school, we also soundproofed a room with those drink carriers from fast food places.

If anything the holders you talk of might absorb a slight bit of high frequencies but overall they dont do much of anything. Plus although its DIY and all, its actually pretty dangerous to use such materials due to fire hazards and such.
