kidamnesiac
This just happened to me today. I put on a record and all of a sudden in the midst of it playing I hear a low hum that gradually increases in volume until it's deafening. I put on another record and it's fine until about one song in and the hum starts again! WTF!? Anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it? cosmonaut
Check your ground wire first, then all the connections in your system (between turntable and amp, and between amp and speakers).
mutinyzine
Yep, sounds like the ground wire is loose or something. I had the same problem when I first got my turntable set up but I connected a ground wire to the back of the stereo (metal) and the "hum" went away. kidamnesiac
It's so weird. I'll have to investigate it further when I get home Sunday, but I don't believe it is the ground wire. I checked that first. It buzzes loudly when I disconnect the ground but there is no buzz when there's a solid connection (which it has had). The humming only starts when I'm playing a record. And it's delayed. By a song or so. So strange.
vinylme
this happened to me when i would play hiphop records. what i discovered was that my turntable was getting some vibration due to the cheap cabinet my table was on as well as my hard wood floors. to fix the problem i got a piece of extra carpet and put in under my cabinet and adjusted the springs on the legs of my turntable. i also moved my speakers a little further from the turntable and this solved my problem. you may also need to add a little more weight to your stylus with the adjusting knob. tankerdesk
Did you change anything recently. Move something, add something like an air conditioning unit in a nearby room, or some other large appliance?
kidamnesiac
I just moved in to a new place and I added a larger speaker setup to my rig. When I came home to check after being out of town the problem has been gone...so far.
voodooramen
Sounds like an acoustics issue. Vibration building up basically.
