timwt
So I just got this record player the other week along with a new receiver and speakers. When I tried to play a record it sounded really distorted and bad so I ordered a new needle thinking it was that. I got the new needle yesterday and it still sounds the same. It sounds distorted like the speakers are blown, but when I change it to radio they sound perfect. Any suggestions?
counterfiction
probably an electrical connection between your needle and your stereo. might be something you would have to bring to a stereo shop for repairs. buy it new or used?
kyle
I'm guessing bad tonearm wiring or interconnects. Are the interconnects replaceable? If so, try changing those out, just to eliminate that possibility, but I doubt that's the culprit. If it's the tonearm wiring then you probably just want to get another 'table. timwt
Bought it used. Damn, I have no idea where I'd bring it around here.

melikecheese
before you go buying any parts, does the tonearm have counterweights? If it does check them and adjust to be sure the stylus/needle is not being pushed into the record, get down at eye level and make sure just the needle touches it. I hit my table one day and knocked the counterweight forward and the stylus was dragging a little on the actual record, it sounded just like you described. timwt
I don't think it has counterweights, but how can I be certain?
