mutinyzine
Anything by The Clash up until Cut The Crap. Seriously, everyone needs at least one copy of each Clash LP. Best band in the world ever. Other than that: 101'ers, Cock Sparrer, The Specials, Stiff Little Fingers, Dead Boys, Black Flag, The Damned, Cockney Rejects, Germs, Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Ruts, The Saints. Skip the Pistols and check out The Professionals instead! Pistols have some good tunes but The Professionals were way better in my opinion. mrc
Do you think Bedtime for Democracy is the best DK record? I could never really get into it...maybe I'll have to give it another go. I picked up Give me convenience or give me death LP the other day which lead me to dig out my Bedtime... CD and that album is sooo good. Not every song is a 9 or 10 but still. I actually havent listened to any DK songs in years and years but could still sing along to almost all the songs on Bedtime for Democracy. Anyways. Black Flag - first 4 years 7 seconds - the crew (one of the best cds ever) Agent Orange - Living in Darkness Dead Kennedys - Bedtime for Democracy Youth Brigade - Sound and fury + Happy Hour (even though this came out in the early 90s) + # Sink With Kalifornija (comp album) Misfits - 12 hits from hell I just woke up, give me a few mins and a cup of coffee then i can give a bigger list. Edit: Just like Casey, Bedtime was my 1st DK CD too. I just remembered that when i was 13 i got diagnosed with diabetes and my parents took me to the music store after we left the hospital and let me pick out a couple cds in attempts to left my spirits. I ended up picking out DK - bedtime and NOFX - Liberal Animation /strange random unimportant fact.

jimmythescumbag
Crass: Stations of the Crass, Feeding of the 5000, Christ the AlbumAdolescents: S/T Descendents: Milo Goes to College Hands Down Necessary: Backed on the Germs LP as well as the Jam and X recommendations! Also, add these to the list(s): - The Vindictives (hella good neurotic/snotty pop-punk) - The Crucifucks (great early hardcore that featured a pre-Sonic Youth Steve Shelley on drums..another super snotty vocal style) - Crimpshrine/Fifteen (killer Lookout! punk) - Desmond Dekker (just look him up) - Murphy's Law (great NYHC/Stonercore) - David Peel & the Lower East Side (once again, look it up...may not be for everyone...maybe anyone) - The Velvet Underground...(need I say more?) casey
If we're straying into non-punk, you definitely ought to check out Talking Heads, esp. '77, More Songs About Buildings & Food, and Remain in Light.

pibbals
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've checked out some of the albums before and I've seen a lot of things I've been meaning to check out. I've got this thread bookmarked and when I get a chance I'll pick some up next time I'm at a record store.
