punkrudeboy
So i'm moving out in a couple weeks and milk crates are kinda scarce in my area. Who here has a good way to transport records safely during a move?
retrospectacle
Use sturdy cardboard boxes. I wouldn't use old, beat-up boxes - buy new if you can afford it. And, most importantly, fill the box so the records are somewhat tight and aren't flopping back and forth. But equally critical to all of this is to keep the box small enough so the weight is manageable - if the boxes are too heavy, you won't be able to move them with the utmost care, they'll get dropped and/or banged up. If I remember correctly, a box about 12" x 12" x 15" should work.
jase
if you know anyone that works in a restaurant, they will have a HEAP of heavy cardboard boxes laying about. Ask them if you could grab a few. Buy a roll of gaffa and you are good to go
bengalimenace
I use double panel 12.5"w X 12.25"h X 12.5"d boxes. These boxes are awesome because not only are they made for LPs, they have a cardboard wall with a top flap in the middle to turn one big box into two connected smaller braced boxes. Your local record store will probably give you empty boxes from shipments. If your store orders through Super D, they might have some of the good boxes I use laying around, too. stranaspank
Lowe's small moving boxes fit a good number, and I used books to fit them snuggly at the boxes are about 6" too long. Some liquor boxes fit 12" perfectly.
Team Avatar
If you want to save space, you can even put one of your records on the turntable that you're transporting as well....

How does that save space? What do you do with the jacket? No...
