planning a trip to the UK in may...

Recommended Posts

so, i'm thinking about making a huge trip to see alkaline trio play a few shows in England in May of 2012. i was wondering if anybody could help me out with either a place to stay, possible transportation tips, ideas on good things to do/places to eat, and stuff like that. i've been to germany/czech republic/austria before, but i have no idea if England is anything like that, or if things have changed in the past few years since i visited.

the itinerary i'm looking at is this:

Tuesday, May 1

arrive at Manchester Airport at 7:50 am

spend the day in Liverpool

Wednesday, May 2

Alkaline Trio show in Sheffield

Thursday, May 3

visit Stonehenge in Wiltshire

Friday, May 4

Alkaline Trio show in Leeds

Saturday, May 5

Alkaline Trio show in Manchester

Sunday, May 6

depart Manchester Airport at 10:40 am

again, any and all information and help you guys can give me would be great. even if you can't put me up for a night, just letting me know a good place to stay would be awesome. of course, if you do let me stay with you, i'd be more than happy to bring you some records and buy you some beer at the show if you're going, too!

If you go to this section of the Punktastic forum, they have City Guides written by punk fans on all the cities you've mentioned. I'd recommend browsing all of the threads below for tips on where to eat/shop/things to see/etc, or even consider joining the forum and asking some questions yourself. There will be people that can help you out.

Manchester

Sheffield

Leeds

Liverpool

Also, UK vinyl fans frequent the thread below, if you'd like any specific recommendations on record stores you should visit in each city. I know that a new vegan grocery / (mostly) hardcore record store is about to open in Manchester called V Revolution, for instance.

Are you gonna get down to London at all? If you've not been there i'd recommend trying to spend a couple of days there at least. While i may be biased as i live there, if you want things to do, places to go and spots to eat at then London should be your first stop, especially if you can get tipped off about where to go and avoid the usual tourist destinations. Liverpool is a nice city but Manchester and Leeds... naaaaaaaaaaaah.

Edit: also the band are playing a way smaller date in london on may 12, 200 cap place.
