Posted February 26, 2012 Share Posted February 26, 2012 according to wikipedia, Thursday at least was complaining about them in 2001, so yeah, they probably knew about the label's bad reputation. I agree. It seems stupid for them to sign another contract in 2003 when they had been with the label (admittedly as a different band) back when other artists were complaining. Victory's contracts have a clause that they have first right of refusal for any band with members of a band currently under contract. So if you start a side project and Victory wants it, you have to either release it with them or never put anything out, at least until the original band is no longer under contract. The same thing happened with Taking Back Sunday/Straylight Run. So basically, Catch 22 got approached by a pretty big label (that turned out to be pretty scummy) when they were around 18, saw an opportunity to "make it", and the members have been paying for that decision ever since.
