Help! My tone arm is being a dick

Recommended Posts

my laptop speakers and a pair of earbuds sound fine to me. i'm just not that picky.

if i have the financial ability to some day get a great system, that'd be great.

but i'm a-okay listening to a turn table that sounds fine to me, but really it's bad because it wasn't $1500.

It's not bad because it's sub $1500. My table sells new for under $1500 and I love it. And I really am not giving you a hard time for not having a "nice" table. I was just making the point that just because a bunch of people like something, doesn't make it good.

Start giving randos handys and you'll have one in no time!

I've heard you tell someone that before on this thread. I can dig it.

It's fine...the gentleman has an emotional value attached to the table and then it makes more sense to me.

Get it fixed, enjoy it and then later...upgrade if you really want to.

In the end, if you are "enjoying" yourself with the music, that is all that really matters.  Equipment is just that...equipment.  It is NOT more valuable than the human experience of joy, emotions and values.

Its my go to phrase when people say they need more money. I used to suggest selling a record or two (variants even!), but most people found that to be blasphemous. Honestly, listening to records is probably.... 15% of my audio listening. So if I ever face the choice of "Sell record X to buy audio gear Y"... I always sell record X. I used to have over 600 LPs (lots of variants), and crappy gear. Then I thought if I sell all my variants I can buy better gear!

How dare you suggest selling variants?!

But I'm happy you came to that conclusion. I completely agree. I don't get it when people are playing back records on shite tables. There's no point. I am constantly driving for better sound in playback, not for the biggest collection of records. I know it kind of flies in the fact of what most people do here, but I'm just not into it.
