moonlightvinyl
Can't remember the title but there is a show on Netflix where a dude follows an identity thief around. It was only one episode. I think the other episodes were prostitution and drug dealing. Nat Geo or Discovery type tv documentary. The kind of stuff I turn on and fall asleep to, given that I don't have cable. Anyways, I think I remember him having a machine that actually let him create credit cards (ie, write to the magnetic strip). He would work with a waitress or something who would swipe the card but to steal the info into a small computer (then actually charge for your food), then he would take that info, write a card, go to best buy, and buy an ipad. It was pretty crazy. He was also REALLY paranoid about getting caught. I guess if anything fishy happens at a store involving a credit card sometimes they will call the police immediately and he's busted for 10 years or something. If you can find it, it wasn't a bad 40 minutes. American Underworld Episode 2 for those interested http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/American_Underworld/70290971?trkid=2361637
rtw88
Yeah. I never saw police get called but cards were declined because of suspected fraud when I worked retail. It happened a lot during the holidays because traveling tends to raise alarms. When it happened at my store, a manager would have to call the card company, then the customer would be asked to provide some personal information, and the bank would either reopen or freeze the account. Even when the account remained frozen, police were never called though.
hudsoncomplex
We got scammed out of $7k, on our honeymoon, on my wife's birthday. We were in Jasper AB and I worked for the bank at the time. I was able to use an office at their branch and start to get stuff sorted out. We got home a week last and the money was returned us soon after. It still sucked. Guest
Yeah, I had no credit history at 22 years old. Took out a loan for a car and made payments on that for 1.5 years. Applied for a credit card and got declined because of the no credit history thing. Took out a target card and used/payed that off for 6 months. I finally got approved for a discover card with a pretty big credit line, so I've been using that. And I just broke into the 700s on my credit score. So I feel good for now, but want to keep building my credit.
