perhaps it's better. i just think the B-side is underrated. i like every song on that side whereas i think "this photograph is proof" and "the union" are the weakest songs on the album.
Fair enough, it is definitely underrated, can't argue with that haha
-
that almost answered the question
taking back sunday's where you want to be has a better B-side.
You think so? I'll admit I'm biased because this is one of my favorite albums ever and I think it's strong from beginning to end, but I would say this album storms through the gate and starts out very strong. Just my thoughts though haha

Nice, it has over 500 reviews on amazon, and most of which say it sounds better than anything you can buy for less than $300. Grain of salt, its amazon. but I saw a post on VC where a couple people said the platter wobbled while it rotated. have you had that problem?
-
wow, I'm looking at buying this too, came on the forum and searched and found this from just last week haha crazy... Anyway, have you gotten it and set it up yet? How do you like it and how does it sound?

In the week leading up to record store day I received 2 pre-orders and a record I thought I missed out on.
Monday: Mae- Destination: Beautiful Splatter came in and looks and sounds amazing.
Wednesday: Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree (snagged one when they added a few more to the store)
Friday: My Thunderbeard Records bundle of You, Me and Everyone We Know's A Great Big Hole EP came in, both the black and clear green are great, but I really love the green, and they sound great too.
Pretty damn good week if you ask me! haha

Holy hell, it's only noon and there are already 29 Hybrid Theory's on ebay

Not my auction, but this is currently only at $22.50 with an hour and a half left. Thought some of the people who missed out would be interested considering it's lower than the hottopic cost.

I really enjoyed this review, pretty much summed up my sentiments on the album. well done sir, well done

I got my copy today - looks amazing. There are spots of clear that look like stained glass inside the white vinyl
Mine has some of the clear coming through and looks sweet, but this is amazing!haha Definitely wish more of the clear came through on mine

I vaguely remember inter punk doing something like this (Alk3 maybe?) and then raising the price when it came out as a double lp. I believe all the orders were cancelled.
If something is too good to be true (ie, half price) it probably is.
Really? That's pretty shitty, thanks for the heads up!
-
Shipped out a bunch of these today. Packing up the remainder and shipping them out tomorrow. Thanks again to everyone that got one or two. Feel free to post pictures of you looking confused with your 7" (for JerseyDave's sake)
Got my shipping confirmation! Can't wait to get this

Same stampers? The more I listen to my maroon copy the more noticeable the degradation in sound quality becomes as you approach the center of each side. Don't want to open a can of worms complaining or anything.. Just want to see if it will differ in any way other than the color.
Yeah, I definitely noticed that about my maroon copy as well.
-
The record is going for $9.25 on interpunk, pretty sweet. It's 20 bucks on victory and at the risc store.

Picked up a copy, been wanting this for awhile, thanks!

generally its in reference to copies sent out to radio stations when the album comes out. It doesn't matter now, but it explicitly stating it was promotional only prevented in resale of those copies. Not promotion like, '1,000th customer today at Denny's gets the new Queen album.'
Kjkenney is correct. Promo copies are generally first pressings. Often they also have a clipped corner or hole punch through the barcode. If you're looking for collectibility, they're generally less "desirable" than regular copies, but they play the same.
if you're really anal about it, promo pressings tend to be first off the line and so don't suffer from the pressing plates wearing down so a handful of gigantic nerds look for them exclusively for fidelity and all that.. mostly for ripping. aside from a couple titles though (Marquee Moon, early Black Sabbath) no one's out here breaking the bank for promos
Thanks guys! it doesn't really matter to me either way because I bought it to listen to, not to sell, but I was curious of what it meant. thanks!
-
Hey guys, I picked up a copy of Queen "News of the World" the other day and looked it up on discogs today and saw that it is labeled as a promo. It was released the same year as the first pressing so would this be considered a first press as well, or possibly a 0th press if it was an early release promo?
Does anyone know what the promotion was?
The original pressing was CAT#: 6E-112 and this promo pressing is CAT#: 6E-112-A
Here is the discogs link:

If anyone could help me figure all of this out I'd appreciate it, thanks!

My 4 year old always wants to listen to the record player, lately she's been asking to listen to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" a lot haha. She likes listening to Fall Out Boy's "From Under the Cork Tree" too, mostly because she loves "Dance Dance" and "Sugar, We're Going Down". She always asks if I can get certain things, or if I have the record, last night she asked me to get Taylor Swift for her haha I love listening to vinyl with her though, she always wants to try to put the needle down or up or lift the cover, she's fascinated with it!
-
My black copy of TAYF sounds terrible, too. I bit the bullet and got the new Where You Want to Be pressing on tan and when I opened it the other day I thought it was going to be TAYF all over again because there was some excess wax around the edges and the center hole looked like it was drilled by a blind man. It sounds great though so I guess their pressings are a mixed bag.
Yeah it definitely seems like they are hit or miss, but I'm glad your tan sounds good because that was one of the reasons I started this thread haha I just got the tan one in too, and then I saw that hot topic was going to press one, so I was considering just selling it and waiting for the hot topic. I guess I'll give it a spin tonight or tomorrow to see how it sounds.
The tan one feels a lot better than my TAYF copy, but yeah, my center hole is pretty bad on it too haha

Remove all dust and dead bugs living in it. What you heard was wrong. You could find a replacement stylus, but you'd be better off replacing the entire cartridge. If there are automatic functions, make sure the gears aren't brittle. Lube up the cueing level and tonearm.
And always, upgrad the entire system. Its 2013.
haha yeah, i know, I'm just trying to hold out for a bit until I can do some research as to what I want and save some money up for it. But awesome, thank you!
-
My guess is they cut all their records from cd anyway. They're just big distorted CDs.
How often do you clean your stylus? I don't doubt that it sounds like shit, but the way you describe it, it must sound extremely shitty.
Well...never haha I actually just posted this thread asking for some advice in the cleaning area. But the other records I listen to sound fine, so I didn't think it was the player.
-
Hey guys, I'm new to the game, started collecting vinyl about 4 months ago, and have been using the record player that my grandfather happened to have in his garage and gave to me for free. It's a Sears SR3000 from who knows how long ago haha. I don't really know much about it, anyone know anything about it?
But I was hoping someone could enlighten me on maintenance/upkeep/cleaning. This thing has been sitting in his garage for years, is there anything I should do to clean it or anything like that? And in general are there things that I should periodically do?
Also, I've heard that it's the needle, not the turntable, that makes for a great player, is that true? If so, would I be able to buy almost any needle to replace this one if it's not so great? Or would I just need to upgrade my setup all together?
Any help and advice is appreciated, thanks!
