    SECULAR HAZE’S FINAL GIVEAWAY
Sadly, all good things must come to an end.  Tonight is the One Year Anniversary of this thread, and to commemorate it I've decided to do one final giveaway.  This past year has been a great experience for me.  I have met some outstanding members that I can now call friends, and I've also had the opportunity to explore some new genres of music that came as recommendations from others.  I will deeply miss hosting this thread and I hope that others will continue paying it forward, as they have been doing lately.  This final giveaway serves as a tribute to the community as a collective.

One lucky member will win the following package:
    (2) Records of your choice from any online store (no price limit)
    (1) iTunes gift card or Barnes & Noble gift card
    (10) Brand New 12” Polybags
    (5) Brand New 7” Polybags
    (1) Box of popcorn (to consume while you watch your favorite threads spiral out of control)
    (1) Giant bag of Skittles or Starburst

TO ENTER, post the following information:
    (2) Records of your choice (description and link)
Your choice of iTunes or Barnes & Noble
Your choice of Skittles or Starburst

The winning member will be selected at random on the night of Friday, April 11.  Good luck to everyone that participates.

I’d also like to give a tip of the hat to a very integral member of our community that doesn’t get enough credit for the hard work that he puts in behind the scenes.  I’d like to recognize the efforts of our Administrator, jhulud.  For your dedication and service to the community, I award you this:

As soon as it goes up for sale, consider it ordered!

    In addition, 2 points:
    1. This topic is not in the "New to Vinyl FAQ"
    2. In my 5 years on this board, I've never seen this topic before.

Yes, and this is why this is an important thread.

Who here has been burned by buying a new reissue when they first started buying records, and then some time later get the original and notice that the reissue sounds like utter crap?

I have some examples from my own collection:

    1. all 2012 Rhino colored reissues of Misfits Walk Among Us. They have the same matrix etchings the 2009 reissues, which sound much better. However, the 2009 are crappy compared to the 1988 reissues, which are available at a decent price (less than the 2012s) and better made than the 1982 copies.

    2. Rhino's Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction. Boring flat, compressed.

    3. Rhino's 2005(?) Ramones reissues of their first 5 LPs on 180g and red vinyl.

    4. 2009 Green Day reissues, especially Insomniac. Compressed sound. Unfortunately, the recent Hot Topic reissue on blue vinyl used the same stamper and sounds like utter crap. Get the original for a good sounding album. Get the reissue if you just want to look at something pretty and colored.

I could not agree any more with you. This is a forum, at a forum, you talk about things. The whole meaning of this forum would almost cease to exist if we were not allowed to ask like minded individuals questions.
If i'd ask something about an artist, I'd rather hear somebody else tell me about it, rather than reading a long boring wikipedia article.

I am quite surprised at many of the hostile responses, seeing as there is a difference to new vinyl and old vinyl. Newer vinyl (newer pressings) most of the time has a bit worse sound than older ones. If you are not an audiophile then it really does not matter, if you like vinyl, you buy vinyl.

My boyfriend is not an audiophile and does not hear the difference between a CD and a LP being played, but he buys vinyl because he thinks they look cooler plus they always come in a bigger package.

So when it comes to old vs new, just listen and find your preference.

So what you're saying is that there's no purpose to this website? I could Google literally every piece of information on this site. I often do if I don't want to endure harassment from the very people who make VC worth existing.
He's asking this question because he doesn't have other local friends who collect and doesn't want to ask the [most likely] pricks who work at his local record store, if he even has one. Luckily, he found a community of humans to talk with instead of a list of search results.
Yeah buddy. Been wanting to get that out in an appropriate thread for awhile.

I'm a newb and I don't really understand the chastising of other newbs. This is a forum for vinyl people, why can't he ask for help without getting smartass responses (this is a rhetorical question as I understand the laws of the internet)

I'd love to meet your self absorbed self in person and beat the pants off of you. You're such a little bitch on this board.

I agree 100%. Much of this board is great and I enjoy learning and discussing about new releases. The asinine elitism gets old REAL quick though. Honestly everyone I know in real life who is a serious vinyl fiend talks a lot of crap about VC users. Not the board itself, but it's "USERS." This doesn't mean every single one of you, it means the handful of pretentious assholes who act like they own the place.

I've been bitched at for discussing flippers or complaining about large companies that mishandle their "sales." I've been told, "these issues have been discussed, just move on." Well EXCUSE US if someone comes to a VINYL message board looking to discuss topics pertaining to VINYL! OMG!?!?! How dare they!

As for new vs old: They're both good! Why decide between one or the other! It all comes down to personal preference really.

I despise this kind of atmosphere here. Why should people look something up on google when they prefer direct communication with more experienced enthusiasts?

I was happy to answer the question. I'm happy to continue the discussion. I like these types of discussions.

Just because a discussion doesn't appeal to you, that doesn't mean you have to be a dick to person who asked the question. I don't like/read 90% of the threads here about bands I don't care for. I don't go into them and chastise Blink-182 fans for their lame taste of music. It's childish.

The real problem with the Internet and here is 20ish male immaturity. Grow up, people.

edit: this wasn't directed at you, Soundboard. Just a general grievance.
