Vinyl is gimmicky. RSD is just the annual reminder of how bad it's getting.

Waiting for this PO got me all sorts of anxious. The art was jarring at first, but I really don't see it being an issue for me personally. I mean it's just some pee pees, China's and bewbies

Personally, it's not an issue for me. I'm thinking more along the lines of other people who like to flip through my collection when they're at my place - including some pretty young family members. It's not like I'm losing sleep over it, and I'll still buy it. But I know I'm going to have to store it somewhere outside of my normal collection, which is just a (mild) inconvenience. 

I get what the band was trying to do with that imagery, and I liked it in the music video. But putting it on the cover feels a little like it's being done for shock value. 

Including the guy who started it... $36K in tax-free dollars. No laws broken, no legal recourse. 

 

He's probably already been swooped up by Wall Street. "If you could convince hipsters to drop $36,000 on shitty Dan Fogelberg records, imagine what you could sell to rich clients who want to update their portfolios..."

Most likely (at least I hope), the pissed off backers will file a class action suit and clean the guy out. This is clearly a bait and switch, and the stereogum article a couple of pages back lays out the case better than any lawyer could.

Hell, in the article, the founder even admits that the business model was fundamentally changed *after* the kickstarter had closed. People bought in expecting Netflix for vinyl, and only afterwards realized it was "three random shitty records a month club".

This is like pre-ordering a new GTA game, but when you show up at Gamestop, they tell you they already ran out and give you a used copy of Vice City instead. They'd get sued six ways to Sunday, and so should this guy.

I was just really surprised to see that listed.

 

Instead of reissuing the 80s wrestling albums, since they seem to be easy to find, I would have much rather seen them put out some of the 90s & 2000s themes that have never been released on vinyl before. 

I would absolutely pay for Attitude-era themes on vinyl. I'd immediately regret it, spin it once or twice, and leave it on my shelf for two years before re-selling it. But I'd still totally buy it.

Not sure who was asking for a repress of the 80's albums. Then again I could say the same for 75% of this list.

On the bright side, he asked for fan donations to re-buy all of the stolen gear, and hit his goal ($2500) in like three hours. 

I know most of you already have this digitally, but the product page on the TE webstore says that there's an instant download of the album, but when I click on the download it says "Sorry, this download is no longer available."

I just ordered "Home..." from the TE site a couple weeks back (I know, I'm late to the Hotelier bandwagon), and had the same issue. Ended up waiting a couple of days, went back, and suddenly the download worked.

I think it may have something to do with waiting for payment to clear, or maybe it's just an inexplicable delay - but it should work at some point. Try it again in a day or two.

Can't wait to pick up the 15th anniversary edition, 18 7inch records with 2 flexi's featuring songs that weren't even on IARB.

Box set typically goes for around $400, and the others usually go for $150-$200. Doubt I'll ever own any of them at that price, although I'll be very tempted to pull the trigger the next time one of the XIII albums pops up.

I have a hard time believing anyone in that video is going to live to the end of the series.

RIght now the only person I feel confident about surviving is Wendy. And that's only because - if you assume that Gemma dies and Jax dies or goes to prison - she's the last person who can take and raise the boys. I mean, they could go to foster care if literally everyone around them ends up dead...but I have a hard time believing Sutter will do that. There's a reason he promoted Drea de Matteo to a series regular; she's going to play a big part in the endgame.

I also have a gut feeling that Tig will bite it within the first 2-3 episodes. He's been living on borrowed time for a while now, and it's a good way for Sutter to ease us into what will surely be a season full of dead bodies.

Can't wait,,,and at the same time, I'm dreading it. This has been my favorite series for years now, and I don't want it to end.

The plan is to create a large public music library with lots of listening stations so that everyone can enjoy this music that would otherwise be thrown away and lost forever.

Which you and I both know is never actually going to happen. I think on some level, he knows that himself...but waxing poetic about "saving music" and public service projects is a lot better than accepting the fact that you're a hoarder suffering from some sort of mental illness.

His interns catalog 500 records a day - one of his buyers estimates that it would take 20 years to go through the current collection. And that's assuming that he stops buying more records...every purchase just adds to the timeline.

Take the lot he bought at the beginning of the article - 3 million records in late 2013. At 500 a day, that's an additional 6000 days (or ~17 years) of work added just from one purchase. God only knows how many he had before that, and how many more he's bought since. The math just doesn't add up.

The article does a really good job of trying to paint him as a passionate collector who's trying to do right by the music. The irony is that in his attempt at saving these records from being lost to history, he's ensuring that the majority of them will suffer that exact fate. He's 62, and when he dies, no one in their right mind is going to try to take on a collection of this size. Most of these albums are going to continue to sit in warehouses, forgotten, until they end up in some Brazilian landfill, never seeing a turntable again. It's just sad.

I should have clarified, the other EP I picked up was Put Yourself Back Together, and that was the one on gold with white.

It's actually a little bit lighter than that, just had shitty lighting when taking the pic. 

So I picked this up at the show last night in Hollywood. It's a Gold w/ White Haze variant. Anyone know any pressing info for this variant. Can't seem to find it.

Hate to bump an old thread, but did anyone ever find out what the pressing info was on these variants? I picked up both EPs at Warped Tour yesterday, and they were the same variants described above. Checked Discogs and a couple other places, but couldn't find anything.

How different are the DGD releases compared to the boxset? I have the boxset and love it. But are these being released as gatefold LP's? The ones that came in the set are in single sleeve LP covers, with titles added to some of them.

I've picked up Acceptance Speech and Downtown Battle Mountain and both were single sleeve. I think the only difference between these releases and the boxset is the color.

I don't love every track on them, but the Rock Against Bush comps would be pretty neat. I really just want that World/ Inferno song from vol 1.

Fuck, I discovered quite a few bands from picking up those comps. Would love to see Fat Wreck do a 10th anniversary pressing.

I'll bet money that Rise Against plays. They have a new album scheduled for the fall, and they've been announcing quite a few festivals lately (like Chill on the Hill) in August-September in support of that. Plus they're from Chicago, they won't pass up a chance to be a headliner in front of a home crowd.

So that's why I can't find it. I thought they just moved it to another section (never really made sense being under "band tees") and I couldn't find it.

I know that Hot Cash can't be used towards vinyl purchases, but wouldn't it make more sense to do some coding on the site itself and make it smart enough to know not to allow a promo code to be used with certain items? Just hiding the entire section seems really lazy, and a good way to lose revenue while it's gone. 

Really want the Lion King OST, but not badly enough to drive an hour to the nearest HT. Guess I'll wait out the promotion and hope there's still some left when they're back up on the website.

There's a question as to whether he's really cleaned up. His ex put up videos on Instagram not too long ago that featured Jonny supposedly on heroin (and you can tell the videos are recent by seeing some of his most recent tattoos in them). 

Jonny responded by taking an over-the-counter drug test and showing that he was clean, but then again heroin doesn't stay in your system for more than a few days (unless you were doing a hair test). So it doesn't really say much one way or another.

I personally hope he's cleaned up for good, and that if those videos were legit, that it was just a temporary relapse. But even if he is and has been clean, he's still shown himself to be pretty immature, and it doesn't seem like he knows how to handle success. Amazing voice, but the guy ends up wrecking every project he's in, and at this point in his life I don't know if he'll ever truly figure it out, or if he just is what he is.

Smart to include those bonus tracks - especially the Cry Me a River cover. The EP itself was only okay imo, but the extra tracks will probably get me to buy.

The new Slaves song sounds pretty good.

 

Easily his best work since Emarosa. I'm seeing Slaves next month, and I'm hoping that the rest of their material is just as good. 

It's just too bad that Jonny is still such an immature douche. He has all the pieces in place to make a great comeback right now, and instead of enjoying the reaction to the new band/song and focusing on that, he's shit-talking Emarosa and their new singer and starting a bunch of shit on Twitter/IG/etc. 

Makes it really difficult to give the guy any financial support, even though I love his music. I'll buy this, but it's more out of support for ETR than JC.....whereas if Slaves ends up putting their album out on wax, I'm not so sure I'd buy it (at least not from the band; maybe second-hand).

At that point, which is the better starter table?  The one that requires you to:

 

1) learn about carts/needles (good luck newbie!)

2) replace the cart (see above)

3) deal with the phono preamp fake out (it's included...but don't use it!)

 

or the one that costs $20 more but saves you the hassle.

You make a lot of good points. But I'd argue that you don't need to deal with any of that. If you buy the LP120 for $230, and you're happy with the sound, then you never need to touch it until the cartridge needs to be replaced. It'll be a couple notches below other tables in that price range, but it's still much better (and safer) than a Crosley or LP60.

That said, I disagree with the article, because out of the box, the LP120 is not equal or better than its more expensive counterparts. It's just not. But I think the initial price is a big factor, depending on someone's starting budget...and $230 vs $350 makes a difference. Once their feet are wet, then they can fuck with what's under the hood. And if they don't already know about carts/needles at that point, it's as good of a time as any to start learning. 

I had mine for a few months and was just fine with the "stock" sound, until I started getting antsy and looking into ways to squeeze more out of it. At that point the extra $100 you mention came into play...but by then I already knew this was a hobby I was going to stick with, and I'd poured enough money into upgrading the rest of my setup (not to mention all the records I'd bought over that time), so another $100 wasn't that big of a deal.

And lastly, due to the not so great built in pre amp and the extra USB transistor the signal goes through, you're getting a bit of dampened sound as opposed to a more direct and pure source that the other turntables will have because they don't have the 'obstacles' that the LP120 has to get the end result.

Well, if you don't care about the USB functionality, and if you don't need the built-in preamp, you can remove the circuit board that holds both of them. It's a pretty simple procedure, and even as someone with very little experience working on electronics, it took me roughly an hour...and most of that time was spent nervously quadruple checking that I had re-wired everything back together correctly.

I'm not saying that you should have to perform surgery on your TT to make it decent...but I'd argue that for the price, an LP-120 is a decent table to begin with, and with a couple slight tweaks can easily become a good table. The removal of the preamp and an upgrade to a Shure M97xE made a world of difference to my ears, and I don't see myself replacing my LP-120 anytime soon.

Exactly. The show's not being made for those of us who grew up with BMW. It's being made for the kids of those who grew up with BMW....with a reference or a cameo here and there for the parents.

I give it two or three seasons at best. After we all see our favorite characters again, the novelty will wear off real quickly and we'll tune out and move on. Then you're left with a generic disney kids show, starring some adults that the kids watching at home won't know or give a shit about.

The only reason 90% of new collectors "collect" to get likes on tumblr/instagram. Once people stop liking their pics, they'll stop buying and the whole market of $30 2xLPs will crash

They didn't have to at all. They could have just had a bunch of shots of of all the characters happy with narration over. Just because they filmed the kids doesn't mean they HAD to use it. He didn't just go back... He was with her for like 10 years right? They met in 2014? She dies in 2024 then Ted spends 6 years mourning her death. So it's not like he just was with her for like 15 minutes then go YEAH I WANT ROBIN AGAIN.

You're right - in context, Ted has 10 years with the mother, 6 years to mourn, then he goes back to Robin. But to the viewers, it feels like 15 minutes because we watched it unfold literally that quickly.

That was my problem with the finale. They dragged out season 9 with a ton of filler, using 22 episodes to cover a 48 hour wedding (that ends up being irrelevant 15 minutes into the finale)....and then in the remaining 40 minutes, they try to cram in what happened in the next 15 years. There was enough story in the finale for at least half a season, and it just ended up feeling really rushed to me. 

They really could have trimmed a ton of fat off this season, and had Barney and Robin's wedding like 4 weeks ago. We could have had Ted/Tracy meet at the same time or shortly thereafter. Then we could have spent a decent amount of time covering topics like the divorce, Barney's kid (that deserved it's own episode), Marshall and Lily's 3rd kid and moving out of the apartment for good, etc.

If they did it that way, then by the time the finale got here, we could have used almost all of it to focus on Ted and Tracy - their relationship, marriage, her illness, and death. Then if they still wanted to put Ted and Robin together at the end, at least we're fully prepared for it. But the way last night went, I was barely coming to grips with the idea that she died, and Ted's kids are already telling him to call Robin. Not mad about the ending, just moved too quickly.
