Hey guys & gals. Just wanted to pop in & give a big thank you to all the amazing fucking people I've met on here over the last year & a half. Whoah. I didn't know it was the Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang guy. That movie is the BEST. I've never seen Monster Squad either. I'll be playing catch up for awhile. Baseball takes up most of my nights these days, but I'll get to all of them.  

 

Yup, Shane Black (also Lethal Weapon, Last Boy Scout, etc...). KKBB is such a great movie. Gotta see if it's on Netflix now, haven't watched in years. Haha, you'll get there!

Oh totally agree. It was great being able to actually understand the action sequences rather than have it shot for 13 year olds with ADD.

 

 

Easily in the top 3 movies of the year.

Yeah I usually say it's the best action movie of at least the last decade.

 

In terms of vehicular action, I'd agree. In terms of straight-up gun/close combat action violence, I'd have to go with Dredd.

It really made me think about the dialogue vs. the idea that this was aimed at children and was thought to be appropriate...progress is great, but we still have so far to go...

 

Especially considering most of the slurs used were by the main kid/hero of the movie, & the uses were never challenged or confronted.

 

 

Interestingly, the same writer would make a movie 20 years later called Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang with a predominant gay character & little-to-no homophobia. Guess he woke up.

Haven't seen Monster Squad in years, and not until now did I ever think to describe it as "The Goonies Vs. The Universal Monsters", but that's what I see now. My wife had never seen it before (yea, I know..she readsssss), but she loved it! Someone else mentioned it as well, but I also have to say I am sad that it had so many blatant homophobic moments. I fear that the more I revisit older movies from the 80's and back, I will just notice how it was so ok to just call someone a crappy name when we were younger even though you had no idea how hurtful it might appear one day even if you were acting a part

First time watching it was last night. Enjoyed it for sure.... but yeah, I mentioned the slurs used in the st thread. Sadly it was pretty common in 80's flicks. Thankfully after the 1st 10-15 minutes I didn't notice them used again. But man were they used heavy in the beginning :/

The regular cover is just the ribcage as far as I know. Maybe my CD copy was different. I know that if you take the booklet out and hold it up to the light you can see the lady inside the ribcage. Considering you have to actually remove it (again, based on my copy, not sure about all of them) I don't see why they would need to censor sealed copies.

 

Ah ok, yeah that's how my CD is. Never looked at it like that.... just figured the lady was supposed to be on the inside, never tried holding it up to the light to see the images together. I think I vaguely remember the barcode deal. Got mine from BMG when I was like 13. They didn't censor their sealed copies hahaha.

The censored cover was a blown-up version of the barcode/UPC. I don't see why they'd have to censor it, I only see the hidden image when I actually take the booklet out and hold it up to a light.

 

So it's the image of the woman imposed against the ribcage? Or am I completely missing something?

I read about that. Kinda weird to think about...they had to censor Tool's first album too. 

 

Yup. And all CC albums were banned in Germany & Australia until the mid-2000's. Our country sucks in a lot of ways, but we really don't (or aren't forced to, I should say) censor our art. If it is, it's generally done by the people who created it.

 

The hidden cow or the naked lady on the inside booklet? Was one of those supposed to be the cover?

Just finished tonight's frightfest flick Monster Squad. Could have done without the 1st 10 minutes of homophobia, but otherwise pretty entertaining.

 

I remember in like seventh grade my friend told me to look up CC and I was just enthralled with the album art. 

 

One of the few bands where at least half of their albums had to have alternate artwork. & some stores put the uncensored covers in brown bags to avoid offense. They really pissed off/scared a lot of people hahaha.
