  1. I agree that the Marantz PM6005 looks perfect, but I'm not sure that I want to stretch quite as high as $700. The FIIO D3 is definitely an interesting option, but probably a bit too cheap. Out of curiosity, how much would a decent entry-level pre-amp cost? Something equivalent to the built-in one in those Marantz amps or, say, the Music Hall A15.3?
  2. Seems like a lot of love for the Marantz. The more I think of it, though, the more I realize I wouldn't mind having the option of an optical input, so I could route my Apple TV through it. Most of my "serious" music listening is vinyl based, but it would be nice to be able to stream my television through the setup. It looks like the Marantz doesn't offer this option, though. How much would a reasonable DAC component cost to accomplish this feat?
  3. First of all, extreme thanks to the original poster for this highly informative thread. This is really excellent stuff. I've been dabbling with vinyl for a good few years now, but I've finally decided to take the plunge and invest in a reasonable system. Right now, I'm looking at a set of Audioengine P4 speakers and a Pro-ject Debut Carbon turntable. I'm not really sure what to do about the amp, though. There seem to be at least a half dozen quality amps in the $300-500 range, and frankly I'm not sure how to determine which is "best" or most appropriate for my needs considering the other components I'll be using. I'd love for some guidance on this topic if anybody thinks they could lend a hand. Cheers, fellas!
