  1. Great movie. Anyway... Yeah, I don't know. It's not as easy for me to navigate huge threads like this. It's easier if it's broken up into smaller ones, but I'll try harder.
  2. Well, I WAS specifically asking about portable record players. Had no idea what a 'hi-fi' setup was, so I didn't think it pertained to what I was going to ask.
  3. Sorry, I was randomly referred to this thread a few days ago when I asked my original question. I have had absolutely no experience in this area - and the title of the thread didn't seem like it was going to answer my question, but I was referred to it, so I asked my own question. I don't have trouble comprehending what I've read, I just didn't read all 30 pages. I skimmed through the OP to get a feel for what the parts of the setup were. Seek help, you have anger problems.
  4. I was curious, on that little setup you posted. The $500 - do you think I could get by with just the Turntable and Speakers for now? And get the pre-amp a little later on.
  5. I inherited a load of vinyl, so I'm set there for quite a while. And yeah, I've sort of come to the conclusion I might as well just get a cheap ($400-$500) starter setup that will last quite a long time and introduce me to this hobby a bit more. No need for the pro stuff just yet.
  6. How nice. Anyway, you personally didn't link to the specific thread, also how was I supposed to guess this was the thread? The title doesn't exactly give it away. Especially for inexperienced people in this area like I am. No hard feelings.
  7. Hm... And that wouldn't take up a ton of space or damage my records too much? Also, how would you set something up like that? Just out of curiosity. (Sorry, I'm absolutely clueless on these things and find it interesting to learn about.)
  8. Wait, are you saying the first setup you posted (the $520) is a lot better? Edit: And if so, which one are you referring to?
  9. Alright, do you mind pointing me in the right direction for these things? Just so I don't fuck up when looking around. Edit: I just looked a pro-ject's stuff and it's all pretty expensive. Mind showing me what you're talking about? Or do you have suggestions for something a wee bit cheaper?
  10. I doubt non-mediocre is $3k+. Let me rephrase this... I want something that doesn't sound like complete shit. It doesn't have to be amazing, just tolerable. And you want to know how tolerable I am? I have a shit pair of TurtleBeach headphones that produce a static in the background constantly - very quiet, but noticeable. I'm not saying I want a record player that will do that, but I'm just letting you know how tolerable I am. Like I said, I'm taking BABY steps, I don't need a crazy ass setup right now. I've inherited a crap load of records and want something to just get me started. I know for a fact that a setup to just get me started would NOT cost $3k+, that's just being unrealistic. Sorry, I'm not trying to be a douche bag if I'm sounding like one, it just seems like I'm not being clear enough I guess. Hopefully that helps.
  11. I'd prefer to keep costs around a couple hundred dollars max. I'm in a small bedroom, so basically always I won't have the volume on super high. I also don't need the BEST sounding setup ever, just something that's at the very least non-mediocre. And something that won't ruin my vinyl super fast and that will last for a bit and just get me started in the vinyl world. Is that doable?
  12. Can someone help me out? I have a question here, but was referred to this thread. I just need a little help. Edit: Mainly I guess I don't necessarily need a 'portable' player, but something that's not complete crap to get me started and last quite a while. And assuming I'll need speakers, some that aren't gigantic and take up a lot of room.
  13. Thanks for the answer. I already have a good collection of vinyl, a family member gave me most of their old ones. I want a portable one, because they're small and I live in a small bedroom. The current one I have now has broken down and the setup is way too big. I also received that as a gift, but only because they got a crazy deal for it (probably because it was half broken to begin with). I just want something that will more or less just get me started in the vinyl world and something that will last a while, I just want to listen to some records. I don't need a crazy setup, just something to get me started and can produce at least better than mediocre sound. So, that's why I was asking about speakers that might go nice with some of those portable ones, And I don't mean crazy huge speakers just a pair of decent quality ones that would actually make it sound not bad like you're saying most of them sound like on their own. Any suggestions?
  14. Well... That's why I asked about speakers that may go well with it. This is mainly for casual-use. I just need something to get me started, one that is fairly cheap, sounds at least decent and doesn't take up a lot of room. Oh, and one that doesn't break vinyl so easily, I heard some did.
  15. Can somebody answer this question for me on here? I figured somebody here might actually know what they're talking about. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20141201160132AA0LKXY
