  1. not to be bringing this type of thing up again, but has anyone listened to their Against the Grain records yet? mine skips really, really bad... I haven't email karl yet, but I just wanted to see what the situation was

in other news, the vinyl looks really yellow

Try cleaning it first, sometimes there's quite a bit of junk from the pressing. If that doesn't do it, you might have to do a little adjustment to the set up.

I'm not going to lie, my record player is probably pretty crappy (I don't think there's anything to adjust), and I did make an attempt to "clean" (i.e., "brush") the record, but I don't think that was the issue (the record looks fine). My record player does play the "Suffer" and "No Control" records perfectly fine (as well as the large majority of my record collection), but I can't listen to this record without it skipping every few seconds.

  2. travis: is there something special about the Mall of America store? Nothing's ever on clearance when I go there in the vinyl section. Bought the Austin Lucas LP, too, before I read your thread and it was full price.

    LAME

I don't know anything for sure, but at least one time I know that they have sent stuff over to Ridgedale Mall (I remember seeing two copies of Nine Inch Nails' "Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D" that the packaging was absolutely torn to shreds. Two weeks later, I found them both in the clearance section at Ridgedale during the 1/2 off clearance sale). Maybe they're managed by the same people and they have more space for clearance? I don't know, but I hope to make it out there later today to check it out...

Edit: They certainly had more than moa, but not a ton. I got Radiohead's "Ok Computer", which was unmarked, but they do actually have a clearance section.

  3. which lawrence arms records were those? clear ghost stories with the old people on the cover and...? (I was late to the game...)

and sadly enough, I'd probably be buying this to listen to because for whatever reason (bad luck or bad record player), my copies of ghost stories and guided tour both skip like crazy on the b-side...

  4. I emailed karl yesterday about it, but he hasn't responded... I'm assuming he was annoyed and I should just be patient, but all of my patience is absorbed by awaiting grad school decisions, so I'll just keep refreshing this page and my email.

    EDIT:

if you look at the product page now (http://www.kingsroadmerch.com/epitaph-records/view/?id=1028&artist=154), it no longer makes a mention of the first 100 being autographed (which suggests to me that more than 100 have been ordered and hopefully that if you ordered prior to this, you'll get an autographed copy)

also the bad religion 7" is back up

  5. ordered the Alkaline Trio LP. but it's lame the way Epitaph is doing it, with no guarantee of what color you get. they should only sell a set amount of packages and you can only get the most limited color through the package instead of holding a few of the green copies for individual orders on a first come first serve basis. ass backwards from 99% of every other place i've ever done a pre-order through.

I keep looking to see if the big bundle will disappear or something, as I just want some reassurance that I'm in the first 100. I will say that I'm glad that everything is reasonably priced, but yeah, it's certainly different.

  6. Between having a kid last week and being able to send this email off this week, I'm on a roll. Here's to living.

    "Hey shitstain-

I use that name sparingly, but in cases like this, you have earned it. “How,” I heard you ponder, “is someone I’ve never met emailing me calling me a pole of feces while he’s listening to Coldplay? Surely that’s hypocritical.” Well, sir, you get this title by selling records we haven’t even shipped yet for $70 on Ebay. At least have the decency to wait until you get them before listing them at laughable prices. It’s a little more acceptable, gives you a bit of plausible deniability regardless of your intentions, and it surely doesn’t give us the ability to judiciously refund your $210 asap because we still have your records and we don’t need your money. And in the process, we both now are able to entertain the whole of the Vinyl Collective board who ratted you out.

The other option is that we can gladly let you sell your records for $70, but you have to pay us $35.99 each. That’s still a 100% markup. That’s good economics.

If you want to get into the business of being an opportunistic, shilling leech, get into the subprime mortgage business or Euro shit porn.

Nice try. Expect $210 to go back into your paypal account to re-invest into whichever business suits you.

No reply necessary-I won’t read it.

    Karl

nice... I've always wanted to make an eBay account just to put up posts where I'm selling things like this and say in the description "sure, you could buy it at [insert website here] for $10, but why not pay more?", but this seems like a much more effective way, especially if you wait until the records they are buying are sold out to cancel the order...

  7. Bad Religion 7"s

We have plenty of them. There's just too much going on with the site right now for us to reboot it (we had to cache the page so that we could handle traffic since our super duper server megaload conversion isn't happening until tonight...) Therefore, if you want a BR 7", order one tomorrow, notify customer service, and they can adjust it. I just can't restart the page with so much traffic, so those who want it are just going to have to wait and we can refund the shipping charges after the fact.

    Word up.

hey, karl, is the packaging for the 7" the same as the previous press?

  8. last time I was at extreme noise, I believe they were listening to a comedy vinyl (not sure who it was, but it was enjoyable to listen to... and EXTREME!)... I just wish they had more records that I wanted, because I'd love to support them. I can't say that I like how they open all of the records and just have cardboard in the sleeves on display (makes me feel like I'm buying used records instead of new), but I understand why they do it...

Why the hell do they do that? To prevent stealing? who steals LPs?

that would be my guess... it seems like a fairly bad part of town (it is next to a saddle shop, which is never a good sign), so maybe something has happened in the past.

  10. I really don't mean to make enemies or anything, but this thread has 18 replies (not counting this one), the majority of which are criticizing the zonk guy for spamming. Is it just me, or are you all contributing to his "spamming" by constantly saying "hey, dude, you're spamming" (sorry for paraphrasing) and such, thus bumping this thread about checking out Zonk Records further up the front page of the message board (which is only helping his cause and probably further angering the other people who are criticizing him for spamming because it won't just go away)?

Also, I realize that this isn't the only thread that he's started recently (I counted 5), but I doubt that this is the first time someone has posted multiple threads advertising multiple sales (though, again, I realize that this particular thread isn't really advertising anything new, not to mention you could probably group all 4 of those threads into one "sale" thread and update the subject to include the new records that are included in the sale, but oh well), so why is everyone jumping on him?

Now, if he's done this like 40 times before and I just haven't paid attention (I've overlooked lots of threads for lots of record labels/stores), then disregard this comment, but if not, can't we just let this issue rest and all go yell at that "Virgil" guy--he posted like 20 threads in one day last week. Talk about spamming... ::)

In the meantime, I'm going to sit back and watch my Karma get further away from being neutral... *sigh*

  11. yeah total bummer and a piss poor way for Interpunk to make an impression on a new customer.

Once I get this situation straightened out, assuming I get this situation straightened out, I don't think i'll be ordering from them again. Just lame all around.

that's too bad, I've had nothing but great experiences with Interpunk... hopefully they make it up to you (for your own benefit)

  12. aren't the jackets attached to the box itself? or is there even a jacket? because it looks like the record just slides into the cover of the box. if that's the case the packaging of these things totally sucks.

you are correct, it's attached, and yes, it does rather suck... I plan on buying some new sleeves for these (right now I'm just storing them between extra packing cardboard things on my shelf...). If you're good with a box cutter (or even if you're not), you could cut the cover off the box and have a shiny, flimsy sleeve with artwork...
