I've browsed through a few pages but I'm sorry if this has been discussed and beaten to death...
Does anyone know which version VC is expecting? I ordered here, and I'm excited to know what to expect.

I Am The Movie is good, but a handful of songs are pretty forgettable.
Commit This To Memory is in my top 10 albums of all time though, if not top 5. I think it's perfect from start to finish.
-
I want this. Will VC get some? Is it at risk of going out of print?
-
Haven't thought about this band in a while. Sometimes I mix them up with Signal To Noise - another great band that ended way too soon and never got pressed on vinyl.

This sounds right. When I saw the Honorary Title live, the dude was being so pompous onstage. Talking about his sexual conquests, blowjobs he got, at an all ages show with lots of kids present.
For the record, the dude in question from THT blows.
You sure they weren't talking about the Honorary Title? That Jared dude is a total priss.

A few:
Cadillac Blindside "These Liquid Lungs"
Motion City Soundtrack "Commit This To Memory"
Paul Westerberg: Stereo & Mono
Matthew Pryor: Confidence Man

Thanks for the heads up. I just made 2 orders. One for a five 12"s and the other for six 7"s.

I didn't know Girl Talk "performs." Doesn't he just play records himself?

What's there? I have the s/t album and Bright Grey. Can someone post direct links to any files? Blogspot is banned in China...

One of the many perks of China is eating dinner for less than a dollar.

I like the Hold Steady suggestion a lot.
Thanks guys.
I also want to find a good Springsteen song for this.
And yes this is for students in China. That means that anything too lit major-y will go over their heads. I'm trying to go simple and memorable. The good side of this is they are generally really interested and eager when it comes to foreign stuff. It will be something new and cool to them, because they are not like asshole teenagers in the west who think everything is "gay" or "retarded."

Ordered this no hesitation while killing time in between teaching classes here in my high school in China.
Maybe I will even get it in time for t-shirt weather next summer!

I am teaching a high school English class, grade 11. Because I'm not an English major or a lit snob, I'm not really interested in dwelling on old poems out of a textbook. I'd rather have some fun with poetry and use some good music to teach it. I'm sure the kids would enjoy that a lot more too.
If you ever listened to a song and looked at some lyrics, and thought "man, my English teacher should have showed us this song to teach us X (metaphor, personification, simile, paradox, oxymoron, hyperbole, meter, symbolism, alliteration, assonance, consonance, and so on...) then let me know about it. I'm slowly combing through all my music looking for ideas, but if anything comes to mind please share.
Regular school common sense applies. I can't use anything with foul language.
So far I am using a bit of Paul Westerberg, Motion City Soundtrack, Death Cab For Cutie, Weakerthans, Loved Ones, and so on.

Sorry for the late pics... not much internet for me this week.
No squished rat head pics. The whole incident happened in a few seconds and I wasn't prepared for the lady to do that until she lined up the bamboo stick with it's skull. I had to look away...
Lots of river pics, including irrefutable camel evidence:
-
Can't wait to hear this. Anybody know if it's leaked online so I can check out before I come back to Canada next summer?
-
This lady hauls out a huge rat trap with the biggest fucking rat I have ever seen stuck to it. Looked more like a small dog. It's squirming and squealing and she runs back inside and comes back out with a long bamboo pole. Then she proceeds to crush its skull with it.
I also rode down a river on a bamboo raft steered by one of those stereotypical Chinese farmers with a pointy straw hat. There were camels in the river and one was staring me down.
Just thought I'd share.

I'd like to join. I still need hockey to keep me entertained while I'm in China.

Hey Yu, if you can come to Wenzhou, let me know!
Or maybe I can go to Thailand in February...
-
I used bank of china to withdraw some cash from my bank in Canada. Is there some reason why I shouldn't do that? If there is, I'm not clear on it. Haven't seen Merchants Bank around here.
The other foreigners here have said that finding alternate ways to access facebook and other blocked sites can be pretty risky. I'll have to know more about what I'm getting into.
Hoping to visit Shanghai for a long weekend or whenever I have a handful of days off. I'm a few hours away in Wenzhou.
-
Oh I like this... Hope VC carries it.

Filesharing sites seem to be ok, but I always found them via blogspots that would link to them. I can't get to any blogs so I'm having a hard time finding files.
I'll be here until the end of June...
Relatives back home should be sending me Alternative Press every month so I should at least be able to keep on top of what's coming out and what to try download.
Of course, I'll still be ordering vinyl while I'm away and coming home to a big stack of records next summer.

So I've been in China about 10 days now and just got internet in my apartment. The bad news is, so many websites are blocked here. No facebook, no blogspot, no Onion. Blogs on blogspot were typically where I found new albums to check out, so I'm really hurting for new music these days. Oh well, it's a new school year starting and it's a crazy time to be teaching. Too busy to sit at the computer unless I'm preparing classes. I hope this board can help keep me up to date with new music and not go get this site blocked in China too...

I'm in China now so I hope that website will help me keep up with Dexter and Lost when they start up again!

I'm really curious about how this sounds. Must get an album stream or something before ordering.

I need a download or stream of this album! Can't wait to hear it. I've loved them since "Smaller Chairs for the Early 1900s" The early stuff definitely needs to be pressed, as "The Theory of Harmonial Value" is still my favourite.
