  1. Fucked Up's library is so diverse, but I would definitely start with Hidden World. In my opinion that album is their sound at its core. If you don't like that you probably won't like anything else.

After that I'd recommend Chemistry of Common Life, Couple Tracks, Zodiac singles (listen to them in order, the way they have progressed is incredible), then David Comes to Life and Glass Boys. I love David Comes to Life, but feel like it's different than everything else they've done and wouldn't be a good starting point.

While I 100% agree with your opinion, I think David Comes To Life is by far their most accessible record, particularly for someone those who aren't predisposed to liking hardcore. It's melodic and less abrasive. Hidden World I think embodies the band the best, like you said. But people love DCTL and regard is as their best work.
  2. You're more than welcome to sell your pre-order to me... then you won't have to be burdened by the anticipation.

:D But f'real I'm so bummed I missed out on the colored vinyl. I was without a phone for TWO days and during that time three people texted me about this pre-order because they know how much I love this band.  :(

Ah don't be so hard on yourself. Saddle Creek is doing something strange with these /3-500 limits color pressings. Even a Cursive deluxe with color vinyl /1500 used to take more than a day to sell out. I missed this and Hop Along and wasn't more than a workday late to either.

  3. '59>SOS>Señor>AmSlang>Handwritten

Still haven't gotten Get Hurt. Which, if you remember how I was about this band, is saying something. Collection was broken up, and I just got disheartened. Not building it back up, and actually broke it up more. Oh well.

I'm in yr boat. Seriously considering unloading my black SOS to make some adult plans or pay off student debt.
  4. Im not even going to go and read everyone's opinions but from little skimmings seems like there are strong difference of opinions...

I like it more than Benji (few great songs, a lot of filler)...musically this album is best he has done...vocal style I still struggle with but this is a great LP overall! Keep pumping out the jams Koz!

I've never met the dude, but I imagine he curses those that refer to him as "Koz."
  5. Ya know, I was super bummed out when Minus The Bear put out Planet Of Ice and when Modern Life Is War put out Midnight in America and the first time I heard Float On on the radio. People change, so do their inspirations and motivations, and along with it goes their music. It's just a different direction for Mark. And yea, dude is making a hobby out of turning out as many limited releases as possible in a year. What're you gonna do?

  6. I really wanted to like Happy Hollow. I liked the themes and I didn't mind the strings to horns. I just didn't find the album that good overall. Mama had some very good songs, but the rest are very forgettable.

I think mama, I'm swollen was cursive's best lp since domestica. Take that for unpopular opinion. I wasn't so into the consecutive small town themes of help wanted nights / happy hollow, though both have some great tracks. Bust and bloom ftw!

  7. interesting, i feel like 'album of the year' is a lot more accessible than cursive.

i agree, and back when kasher was going one-for-one with cursive / good life records, i think that was true for the good life as a whole.  after happy hollows / help wanted nights, both projects found a lot of common ground in my opinion.  kasher is a storyteller, and that comes through in all of his projects.  i have high hopes for this record after some lackluster tim kasher (solo) releases.

  8. GUHHHHHH i am bummed i missed the deluxe.  i didn't get a minute to check anything today and totally missed the announcement.  had no idea this was even coming.  dang.

this song is awesome, too.  guitars are definitely reminiscent of earlier cursive.  kinda reminds me of the b-sides to i am gemini.  awesome direction for the good life.  excited to hear the rest of the record.
