  1. You should send an email to Matt from Earth Analog Records (and Hum).  He used a Vinyl Flat with the leftover Hum vinyl he was/is selling.  This is what his site said about it:

    * I am opening each record and making sure it will play ok on a decent turntable. Any record which does not perform well gets flattened using a device I purchased called the Vinyl Flat. It’s safe for the record and, in all cases so far, it’s worked. (Thank you to the nice folks at Vinyl Flat for loaning me a second one of these to help speed up the process!)

  2. Got my order today.  The only thing I'm bummed about is the absence of No Knife - Hitman Dreams.  Received:

    Porcelain Raft - Strange Weekend

White Denim - Takes Place in Your Work Space

    Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous

Last Days of April - Ascend to the Stars

    Menomena - Moms

Patrick Park - Come What Will

    Silver Scooter - Orleans Parish

    All for $55!  Awesome sale.

Also missed out on Braid, Old Canes, The Faint and Interpol.

  3. I'd love to hear a copy of it that sounds fine.  I can't assume you guys are deaf at all, I'm sure you're not actually.  Because, yes, if your copies were bad, it's impossible to not hear the distortion.  Some people have said that certain TTs and/or carts can make the difference.  I believe the issue is that the press was done way too close to the center label so theoretically if you have the right combo of TT and cart, maybe it handles the very tight rotations that close to the center.  You shouldn't need special equipment though to play a certain record.

dreamover made a very good point about Zero sounding great on the Aeroplane box.  I haven't picked that one up yet, but that'll definitely be a bonus I hadn't previously thought about.

Do any of you that say you don't notice any problem on your MCIS disc 1 also have Oceania?  I straight up sold that record because the distortion also became increasingly noticeable on ALL sides of that 2xLP release, from my perspective, ruining the sound on the last song of each side.  Also, I love the Oceania album.  Cannot wait to hear what else Billy and company have in store for the future.

It's funny that it's confusing to everyone.  Similar to you, I couldn't help but feel everyone that was complaining must be impossible to please, because I didn't notice anything.  I can't speak on Oceania, but I don't think this issue has to do with the turntable.  My setup is super cheap, but the whole record (including Zero) sounds great.  My best guess is that it's simply a pressing flaw that affected a large number of copies.

  4. To the people that grabbed the No Knife LP. Let me know if it actually comes through. I'd be pretty surprised if it does.

I'll definitely let you know.  I don't think I would be surprised either way.  I don't think they were ever appreciated as much as they should have been, so it's almost not surprising to see one of their records hiding in a big online distro.  Needed Hit Man Dreams, so I'll be pumped if it comes through.

  5. Fantastic album. Was really excited to see this post. A little more info...

Available in The Wrens' webstore here:

And from a January, 24th 2011 Facebook post:

"With this, the coldest day in August that I can remember, another sign of the End of Days is made manifest in our webby store – Meadowlands, in vinyl, the record, the actual album…is back in stock!

Yep, the full double album complete with bonus songs. You can finger the goods here in our store (link below).

Relatedly, Four Horsemen seen approaching the city, leading an army of souls."

Thanks for clarifying! I must have been on their Big Cartel store when I saw it was sold out.

  6. I thought there may be a few of you that will want to jump on this. It's a very limited comp (300 copies) featuring some great artists, including Will Johnson (Centro-matic), Zookeeper (Mineral, The Gloria Record) Ovenbirds (Zykos) and Victor Villarreal (Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc). Should be pretty awesome.

  7. The drums is easily the most noticeable part. In headphones I thought they sounded dead but I was playing the CD in the car the other day and they sounded awesome.

Also, I don't get the hate on the newer drummer. He is technically far more gifted, live he's awesome to watch (watching him play I Couldn't Love You live makes me think I can't even really play drums), and on record he plays to the songs so well. I couldn't believe the shitstorm he faced when he joined the band.

I'm new to posting, but not to the board. Good to see Cully is getting a little love. I've known him for a few years. Great guy and great drummer. He's got a nice resume.

You can find his drumming on releases from Zookeeper, Bishop Allen, The Gutter Twins, Twilight Singers, Zykos and Shearwater.

He's the full time drummer for Cursive and Okkervil River now. Pretty busy guy.
