  1. I had an issue with SRC where the tracking # was wrong, the package didn't show, and then no one responded to emails or the 1-800 number.

BUT.... I contacted the "SRC" on this board (Jenna?) and she tracked down the source of the problem, my package went out FedEx and arrived in 3 days, AND everything in perfect condition. So no complaints now.

Kudos to SRC for taking a potentially bad situation and turning around in a very positive way. I'm gonna definitely keep ordering from them, especially if they keep repressing vintage 90's records....

  2. Friend of mine was wanting to go to this. She was shocked how quick they sold out. I had no idea they were $100+ now.

Them Crooked Vultures... Flaming Lips... Brand New/Thrice... None of them sold this venue out as fast. Only show that went quicker was Foo Fighters for the DNC back in August. (Those were gone in 30 sec... I know cuz I tried and failed...)

  3. I just wish I had everything I bought on CD in the '90s on vinyl. I could probably pay off my mortgage. That Cardigans record going for over $300 on eBay last month? CRAZY.......

An old music-store friend and I were commiserating on seeing stacks of Dave Matthews records going for $10 cuz they couldn't GIVE them away back in '98 or so. That's a $250+ record now....

  4. To the contrary, I love Brand New! Admittedly, my gf loves them more and between the two of us, we have a pretty nice BN collection.

However, the thought of paying $100 for a single LP makes my heart sad. If I can't get a record for retail, I set my limits and wait it out. Patience is a virtue and I am almost always able to find the ones I want without selling a kidney.

I fully understand obsession, but some of these pop punk vinyl fanatics blow my mind with the prices they'll pay for some stuff.

That's all. Now I feel obligated to post a collection. Soon.

I was of the same mindset, but then one of my friends who runs a local shop listed "Mars Volta" in his "Latest Used Records" FB post. It was "De Loused." And it was $100. And yeah, I drove down there and bought it.

Then the coda.... I loved having the record, but I was almost *afraid* to play it because it cost so much. Plus the front cover was kinda beat to s**t. So when someone offered me $150 outright for it I grudgingly sold.

Moral of the story: $100+ is a lot for ANY piece of vinyl, but some records are just a good investment, like a stock portfolio you can actually play on your turntable.....

    Posting my WT collection soon.

  5. Exactly, not the original 1996 pressing.

I've never been overly smitten with "first pressings," assuming the reissue is done well. And sometimes it's a smart idea to switch. I covered the cost of all four of my current Wilco LPs by selling ONE copy of "Summerteeth" before it got repressed, for instance.

  6. Fair enough... I picked up Sun Kil Moon's "Ghosts Of The Great Highway" years ago, when it was already OOP (but not the crazy price it is now) for $10.

Call me old school, but I think there's just as much value in picking up something BEFORE it goes OOP and prices go sky-high... as there is in stumbling across something rare that's been under-priced...

  7. I was a HUGE Whiskeytown fan long before most folks knew who Ryan Adams was. I bought every single one of their 7"s at their original prices ($2-4) when they first came out... This would be "Angels EP" (on MoodFood), "Theme For A Trucker" double (Bloodshot), and "Car Songs" split with Neko Case (Bloodshot again).

    SO... Total investment=$8.... Current market value (I think)=$400+ :)

  8. How much is "small fortune"? As I picked this up when M Good first offered it for sale on his website... Near as I can remember it was a limited pressing and sold for around $30 with shipping. I wasn't a huge vinyl collector then, but I LOVE Avalanche as a complete album... and even then, I suspected this would wind up being a collector's item.

ANYWAY. Not to brag... If I badly needed the $ I would certainly sell to you... But it's not really something I want to part with at the moment! FYI you've got great taste in rare stuff... I couldn't get my hands on PJ20 but I do have the FIRST pressing of Jar Of Flies/Sap (with the AIC logo etched into Side 4) and the vinyl of Kozelek's greatest album IMHO... Ghosts Of The Great Highway... which I believe is going for a pretty penny as well....
