Needle/Cartridge replacement

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the needle/cartridge on my turntable as the needle just decided to break off. (It was very old anyways)

My arm is kind of weird and I can't really tell what I should be ordering to replace it with, can you guys help me?

Appreciate it.

Here is a picture of both my table and the arm.

I need to replace my cartridge too and I'm nervous.  I have an old dual and idk where to begin so I've been putting it off!

Most Duals have removable headshells and quite a few use Ortofon carts with replaceable stylus so yours shouldn't be a big hassle but it depends on what model it is and whether someone has replaced the cartridge with something different. Most of the manuals are in the vinyl engine library so have a look there.

Yours is a bit more difficult, I don't recognise the deck so hopefully someone in the US can identify it for you and as rspkt says it's very difficult to see the cartridge and the stylus in the underside picture but from what I can see the whole thing looks a lot like a GE version of the BSR's that were sold by the bucket load here, these used carts with a replaceable flip over needle and there were charts about with photo's of the various ones for you to select your needle from and a lot of these charts are on line now.

If you can get a better picture of the cart it would help a lot as I may be way wrong but either way try and find the model number of the turntable and search the needle replacement specialists charts on line for the one that looks like yours.

For both of you if you don't have one already get a vinyl engine account as you will probably find the answers there, especially for the Dual as most of the manuals are in the vinyl engine library.

I've got this one.  I have to take a look through this.  The wires are what is messed up, not the needle, but I should probs replace it anyways cause it's the same needle my mom used like 20 years ago.
