scotterson
just in the past week, my turntable has started sounding kinda crappy. the cartridge is relatively new (4 months old), so i cant imagine that i need a new cartridge or stylus. the sound is kind of coming in and out, getting quieter at times, and pretty staticy. i have a grado prestige green. do i need new leads? does the stylus need to be cleaned? has anyone else had this problem? thanks- scott
xxmartinxx
That could be a lot of things. The Grado Green is a pretty decent cart. Make sure all four wires are connected well to the back of the cartridge. Do you still have the old cart? You can put that one back on and see if the problems go away. If not, it could be a preamp issue.
planetrakis
The power of static. You'll need one of these for your stylus and records: http://cgi.ebay.com/Zerostat-3-Anti-Static-Gun-by-Discwasher_W0QQitemZ320242637290QQihZ011QQcategoryZ149963QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
scotterson
i do still have my old cartridge, ill give that a shot. i hope its not the preamp, as it is built into my receiver, and i dont feel like buying a whole new setup...is that anti static gun significantly better than a cleaning + antistatic brush? i have one of those that seems to do well enough for the cleaning part... thanks for the tips, anymore advice is always welcome! planetrakis
Your antistatic brush probably does nothing for your stylus. Very important to demag that.

xxmartinxx
I'd email Grado. It could be a solder joint in the cart.
