Tardcore
the real tragedy here is that I have some legitimate questions about record cleaning machines.

Tardcore
I'm leaning towards this bundle http://www.musicdirect.com/p-5840-vpi-165-basic-bundle.aspx is the included cleaning solution worthwhile?
allenh
Yes, I doubt someone like VPI would offer it if it didn't do it's job.
Tardcore
well, I think the bundle is put together by the retailer but you're probably right. I'm sure it's fine.
ajxd
Besides the deep clean... sure. The machine, brush, and wash is all you need!
ajxd
OMG that guy in the video is weird looking. His eyes are too far apart.
Tardcore
so the deep clean is not recommended to use? too harsh?
ajxd
Oh, no I just think its overkill. If you cant clean your record with a normal wash... maybe its not worth cleaning, you know? If you buy a bunch of old records/Goodwill records, sure, get it. But for bought new records? I think its unnecessary.
Tardcore
the bundle price is the same price as the 16.5 alone, so they're all freebees. as long as it isn't going to do harm, I might give it a try. I have some old Ramones/ACDC records that are in pretty bad shape.
allenh
The deep clean is for records that have grime really stuck into the grooves, problem is that records like that usually have other problems that cleaning won't fix.

allenh
Haywood? Is that you, buddy? Not enough words for Haywood and mine are generally in the right order.
Tardcore
apparently there's a VPI dealer like 5 blocks away from my home. Pulled the trigger on the VPI 16.5.
Tardcore
Good lord. I finally got a record-cleaning station set up in my kitchen and gave the VPI a try. life changing experience. after you suck the record juice off with a few passes of the vacuum, do you let the record air dry? or is it ready to play immediately afterward? BobNY
Air dry. Only takes a few minutes. Any stray fluid evaporates quickly
ajxd
Yeah I do 2-3 passes. Also figure out how to use less fluid too... I took a box of 3mL pipettes from my lab (think about high Chem/Biol). 3mL is more than enough.
