nothnks
Howdy, Right now I have a Yamaha RX-930 and a Pro-ject Debut Carbon. The RX-930 has a built in phono preamp, but I've been thinking about upgrading. I'm looking at the $100-200 range. Would buying a new preamp be worth it? Would I get much of a difference at all in that price range? Y'all got any suggestions as far as model goes? Thank You.
ajxd
Emotiva XPS-1 for that price range. You'll want a preamp that has multiple loading options.
Tardcore
you could also look at the Schiit Mani. $130, made in the US.
nothnks
Would it be smart for me to get a new preamp tho? What kind of results would I see?
dethrock
Yes, I'm guessing almost any phono pre would be better than what your Yamaha has.

It's going to be pretty hard for anybody to answer this for you. I personaly think you would be better off spending your $ on a different integrated amp altogether, but I have no experience with your specific receiver. I'm kind of new to most of these upgrades, as I've never had the money to buy them. What would a better preamp do for me? (Sorry if this is a stupid question) And do you have any integrated amps that you could recommend?

Find 3 or 4 phono pre's within your budget and read reviews. I know it's easier to be spoon fed the answers but if it's something your interested in you'll learn a lot more if you look into it yourself. EDIT: Here, this is $50 and he said he's open to offers and shipping is included. http://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649142181-tcc-tc760lc-mmmc-phono-preamp/ Try it and see if you can tell a difference between that and the phono stage you're using. If you can, keep it for awhile and then upgrade. If you can't, sell it. nothnks
