Can I use my recording interface as my preamp?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, hoping for some help here. Don't know if what im doing is totally wack but im just waiting on a phono pre im getting from a friend when his new pre is built.

In the meantime im looking to reduce space and not spend money. I have:

Uturn audio turntable and rokit 8 powered speakers.

I'm Seeing if it's possible to run my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 recording interface as the preamp until I get my actual phono pre?

Link to the Focusrite: http://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-18i8

Could I get some sort of adapter that turns the RCA cables into a 1/4" input/inputs and run it thru the Focusrite? Is this possibly? Am I crazy? Will lose it being stereo? Will I have to run a computer as well to tell it what to do?

Like I said, don't know anything about this, just thought hey this might work. Wondering if anyone can help me out or tell me not to do it
