ChardeeMacDennis
I'm recording some guys in my home studio and we took a break and looked up a YouTube tiny desk concert. Safari froze with the loading circle and then the computer shut off. Now I am just getting a prohibitory sign when I try to start up my MacBook. It's a 2009 Mb pro. Looked up all the tutorials and fixes, resetting SMC, NVRAM, etc. Can't even enter disc utility...just goes to the apple loading screen gets about halfway and then gives the prohibitory sign, God damnit

abovetheearth
do you have a time machine backup on it?
kamalatapes
This happened to me, I'm betting your RAM blew out. Head to your electronic shop and buy some RAM if it's not that then your HD died out and return RAM to the store. Both have happened to me that same model Klefki

Guest
My wife just got a MacBook Air. How do I prevent this from happening? By not buying a Mac, because it's a huge pain to change RAM on them (some the RAM is soldered in). There really is no way to prevent RAM from going bad. It either lasts forever, or dies, just like any computer component.
ChardeeMacDennis
do you have a time machine backup on it?I do! ronniegwilliams
So this has happened to me a couple of times on the exact model. It's very possible that the hard drive slipped out of place, open her up and remove it and reinstall. It's incredibly easy and you can find a tutorial online. If this isn't the case, it's possible the RAM is shot. What DAW program are you using and how much RAM do you have? Depending on what you're doing and how you're doing it, a typical DAW will consume RAM, especially if you're not utilizing shared buses/track stacking/etc. That particular model maxes out at 8gb and if you haven't already done so, I definitely recommend maxing her out. I'm definitely an expert on that particular Macbook as mine has been a workhorse for years now. If you have any questions about it or recording on it, you are more than welcome to PM me
