1-2-3-4 Go! Records June update

Recommended Posts

You call it Spam...we call it...well something else that sounds nicer.

This is the update I just sent out ot the email list. For those of you who aren't subscribed this is what's shaking at the store and the label. There's other stuff I didn't mention like new Ringers records a Sirens 10" or 12"...not sure yet...that collects the two seven inches and another track or two and some other stuff I can't even remember right now. Anyway this is the official update.

Hey Everyone,

As we roll in to summer I'll try to keep these updates coming

steadily. There's a bunch of cool stuff going on so let's get in to it

1-2-3-4 Go! and Manifesto voted Best New Businesses by the East Bay Express!

East Bay Express (A weekly out here) just voted the store and

Manifesto Bikes as the two best new businesses in the East Bay. I

swear I didn't bribe a soul! It's a pretty cool honor and I've already

noticed new people coming in with copies of the EBE tucked under an

arm. This is what they had to say in the paper

"Oakland's recent artistic revival has been reanimating quite a few

formerly seedy neighborhoods lately. Notably, this stretch of 40th

Street between Telegraph and MacArthur — formerly home to a few

shuttered light industrial spaces — has welcomed two distinctly cool

shops. 1-2-3-4 Go!!! is both a record label and a record store

specializing in punk/hardcore and classic country records (limited CDs

available). While the space is small and the stock necessarily

limited, Stevo's discriminating taste ensures that everything in his

shop is a worthwhile addition to your record collection. Right next

door, Manifesto is the hippest little bike shop in town. Not only does

it specialize in reasonably priced, high-quality single-speed bikes

that are both perfect for the urban cyclist and incredibly hip, but it

also has a selection of artfully restored, road-worthy steel-framed

bikes for the everyday rider. Plus, with an on-premises art gallery, a

selection of locally made bicycle-related crafts, and a casual Sunday

morning "Bike Church" (free coffee, bike wrenching, gospel music, and

hang-time with the two owners), Manifesto makes your bike into

something so much more than just a way to get around."

If for some reason you made it on to this email list and you haven't

been by either shop yet...come on in! Manifesto is now open 7 days a

week (opens late in the afternoon on week days).

Git Some (Ex-Planes Mistaken For Stars) full length coming out on

1-2-3-4 Go! Records in August.

Now that the store has been open for a few months we're back in the

swing of things with the label starting with a full length for Denver

Colorado's Git Some. The record is called "Cosmic Rock" and if you're

a fan of Black Flag, Jesus Lizard, Drive Like Jehu, Rock and Roll and

getting high you should be stoked. This is going to be available on CD

and LP (with a one time use coupon for high quality MP3's of the

entire album!). The LP will be on Red vinyl and comes in a full color

gatefold sleeve.

Check out the following MP3's

Snuggle / No High Fives To Bullshit split 7" coming out on 1-2-3-4

Go! Records in late summer.

It's a sad state of affairs when an East Bay label has to import East

Bay style pop punk from out of the state. Thankfully there are a lot

of bands out there carrying the torch. Snuggle from Seattle

(http://www.myspace.com/snugglenotagbacks) are one of my favorites.

They play what is probably best described as heartfelt gritty pop punk

that isn't all high fives and good times. I don't know about you but

all that positivity can be a little grating haha. I like a band that

can play both sides of the field. A band that can talk about how life

can be amazing and endlessly worth living and at the same time can

make you wonder what the point of it all is and leave you confused

about what you should be doing with yourself. The two songs that will

appear on this 7" are from the first recording session they did for

their forthcoming LP on 1-2-3-4 Go!. That session is being scrapped

barring this release and they're headed back in to the studio in the

next month or so to re-record everything. No High Fives To Bullshit

are from Colorado and where Snuggle might swing a little towards

Crimpshrine or Fifteen, they swing a little more towards early

Jawbreaker. It actually reminded me of the sort of thing you'd find on

the ETC compilation. They don't have a myspace or a website but I'll

be putting MP3's on the website as we get closer to being able to take

pre-orders. I don't have cover art in hand at the moment so I'm a

little hesitant to give an exact date for release but I'm shooting for

late August or early September.

Webstore updates....

I'm working on getting all the new stock that's in the store up

online but man it takes forever. I went from having a couple hundred

items in the distro to a couple thousand plus in the store pretty

quickly. It's definitely an undertaking. If you're in the bay area,

new stock arrives in the store every week so if you don't see

something on the website it doesn't mean that it isn't in the store.

Also for things like the new Jay Reatard single it sold out so fast I

didn't even have the chance to get it on the site. Also a lot of

people ask how often new Used records come in. Lately it seems like

every day. We're stuffed to the gills with Used LPs, 7's and CD's

right now so get down here before it gets all picked through!

I do believe that's pretty much it at the moment. Thanks for reading

and we look forward to seeing you in the store/in our in box.

No shit returned. No dude ever caught. Not fucked. Insurance ended up paying out which was crucial and my landlord went in half with me on the security gate. When all was said and done I probably ended up a little ahead of the game. Oh and my insurance didn't go up at all.

sucks no one was caught, but do the cops ever catch anyone?

Glad everything worked out for you!
