Duff
save money by not making money, that's a new one. don't CD's cost pennies on the dollar to manufacture? so what exactly are they saving by cutting indie shops off the books.
brotherkyle
this really shouldn't surprise anyone, majors have been trying to destroy independents for decades
xxmartinxx
First off, I assume this is in the UK as EMI is a British company. I'm surprised that a major (even in the UK) was selling "direct to retail" at all. Shit... Epitaph, Fat, etc doesn't do "direct to retail" either. The reason is simple. They can have a small shop of people sending out a lot of boxes to "one stops" or that and a bunch of other people sending out $200 orders to a bunch of small stores. Cutting that out would cut out a lot of overhead I imagine without really damaging the bottom line since stores would end up ordering the same product through a "one stop".
