Mylene Sheath January News!

Recommended Posts

Well gang, here we are buckling up for a brand new year, a clean slate and another chance at the perfect 12 month haul =) Hopefully everyone had an amazing 2009 and learned a lot of lessons they can implement into making 2010 that much better of a year! I know that we, personally, learned more last year than we could have possibly ever imagined. At times it was a lot at once, but it is NEVER a bad thing to learn your lessons firsthand and through experience. So it's with this new-found wisdom that we all prepare for a new year of lesson-learning and hopefully we can all convert each mistake into knowledge and success quicker and ultimately take over the reigns of the world faster because of it =) Every misstep is an opportunity to learn, the education that schools cannot teach - so even if your 2009 didn't go exactly the way you had planned, it may have gone better than you could possibly understand at this point in your life. It was an unparalleled year for The Mylene Sheath, both personally and "professionally", and we owe everyone so much for making 2009 happen the way it did.

We swear we'll work harder than ever in 2010 to thank you all for taking this ride with us - that much is certain. And we'd also like to humbly say "Thank You" to everyone collectively, though it seems like a VAST understatement, incomparable to the appreciation we actually and truly feel =) Our intentions are to display that appreciation through our actions, after all - talk is cheap! Okey dokey... on with the show!

THE MYLENE ENGAGEMENT

We're getting married! And we'll leave it at that =)

2010 RELEASES

We've got a FULL slate of new releases that will be dropping as the year progresses and we couldn't be any happier with the way things are shaping up at this point! Here's the immediate future:

We'll be reissuing our brothers in Caspian's back catalog on CD with alternate artwork and all new packaging. Both The Four Trees and You Are The Conductor are now available through us on all major DSP's (iTunes, Amazon MP3, etc) and will be available on CD nationwide March 16th, with a late February preorder package including a preorder-exclusive Caspian T-shirt. This will be followed up closely by some vinyl fun as well a little bit later =) The band is currently on tour with Sainthood Reps and destroying venues across the northeast, so please brave the cold and make it out to show and get warmed up! Full tour dates for that can be seen in the "SHOWS" section below! Vinyl for The Four Trees is now officially out of print and You Are The Conductor is dwindling in numbers, but can still be ordered from our store.

Other bombshells in line consist of brand new albums by Angel Eyes, Beneath Oblivion, Gifts From Enola, and a BUNCH more. Also, we'll be releasing a vinyl version of Junius' self titled debut album (which combined their first two ep's). That's a very uninformative tip of the iceberg, but we don't want to mention too much stuff too far ahead of it being released or ruin any surprises. Just know that it's going to be a freakin' awesome year!!

IF THESE TREES COULD TALK PREORDER UPDATE!

Well, it's been a pretty tough week of packing and mailing hundreds of records, but we're happy to say that almost all preorders for the ITTCT album have gone out. If you haven't received yours yet, then you'll probably be getting it in the mail next week sometime. In the meantime, here are some photos we took of the finished beast to tide you over!

DISTRO UPDATE – Buy Here!

CREVECOEUR - #1 & #2 2xLP beige/white vinyl (limited to 300)

"Crevecoeur's songs are mostly instrumental pieces, a tribute to the glorious days of soundtrack music, yet with a pop sensibility. definitely something for fans of morricone soundtrack music, calexico or black heart procession. This release combines their two albums #1 and #2 in a nice gatefold cover double lp." $20

SEPTEMBER MALEVOLANCE - Tomorrow We'll Wonder Where This Generation Gets Its Priorities From 12" (limited to 320, no repress!)

September Malevolence leads a booming Swedish instrumental scene with moody, slightly off-beat post-rock that has a perfect insight into the quiet/loud approach that has dominated the genre over the past few years. Top-notch songwriting sets Tomorrow We'll Wonder... apart from the pack, and it's a skill like that which is an indicator that this band is not a flash in the pan. Tomorrow We'll Wonder... gets darker than one would expect, but this is complemented well by a gloomy atmosphere that looms over the album. While the dark clouds are briefly cast away throughout the course of the album, it's ultimately a losing battle as the intent of the band becomes clear by the album's conclusion." $14

KODIAK - s/t LP clear vinyl (limited to 350)

"If you like Switchblade, Pelican, Earth or A Storm Of Light you should definitely check out the debut of these great guys from Germany! 2 songs, 40 minutes of algid and monolithic soundscapes - comparable to a long lonely haunting trip through the arctic. With a guest cello appearance of Emily from Audrey. Definitely better than your current favourite instrumental metal band! Haha" $14

LES FRAGMENTS DE LA NUIT - Musique Du Crepuscule LP black vinyl (limited to 350)

"Les Fragments de la Nuit is a blossoming band created in 2005 by Michel Villar (piano) and Ombeline Chardes (violin), score composers for film. In order to play their pieces on stage, they decided to set up a quintet made up of three violins, a cello and a piano. Their music, ranging from tragic to epic and atmospheric was greeted by audiences with unexpected enthusiasm...."

$14

SCRAPS OF TAPE - Grand Letdown LP silver vinyl(limited to 130)

"Scraps Of Tape's third record Grand Letdown is filled with music that might speak to a bigger audience, but not for the sake of compromise. Instead we get music that shows us a lot of new confidence. They've chosen path, and the decision is based on experience instead of some nervous reaction to a crumbling industry. On Grand Letdown we get a lot more songs with vocals, the anger has been shaped into a sharper, yet poignant, tool, and the melancholy shows signs of carefully formulated optimism. The listener gets to hear an expression that's been slowly worked out in its own time, and in an environment they themselves has chosen." $14

HEIRS - Alchera LP black vinyl(limited to 150)

"Heirs' debut full-length "Alchera" is a 43 minute movement of oppressive instrumental power, cyclic ritualism and bleak hallucinogenic revelation. Recorded at Head Gap Studios by Neil Thomason in the heat waves of Melbourne in January 2009 and mastered by James Plotkin (Isis, Khanate, Burning Witch), the 6 pieces recorded capture the band's live volume - a blanket of sound traversing a rolling dynamic landscape.Drawing influence from Michael Gira and his Swans legacy, the sledgehammer riffs and industrial pummel of Godflesh, and continuing Stegeman's incense shrouded low-end incantations from his work with doom dealers Whitehorse, combined with Jackson's reverb-soaked noise, Alchera strips bare the needless excesses of post-rock and heavy metal in favour of something much more concise and affecting. A lurching, drugged-out specter - holding solace in one hand, and vengeance in the other. From the seething metallic buzz and bluster of the opening track "Plague Asphyx", through to the crowning low-end droning turbulence of "Russia", the recording is an archetype for an existence shrouded in confusion, joy, disappointment and addiction." $14

KOM - Ink 10" (limited to 160)

"The only thing that counts is the music. That's the perfect sentence to describe the work of KOM from Germany. They don't care about expectations and release dates. That's the reason why we needed to wait that long for the follow up of their marvelous debut ''Plazaobelisk''. They used to be labeled 'postrock' some years ago - but if you expect another copy of Explosions In The Sky this band isn't something for you. KOM are different. They have their own approach and they're writing music which is far away from commercial goals or established genre cliches. 7 songs... the perfect soundtrack for calm and rainy days... in the 60's... in a world without the internet...."

$12

DOMINIC - Nord LP 180 gram black vinyl(limited to 300)

"The four Norwegian guys from Dominic form one of the most lovely bands you can imagine. They have toured Europe several times, leaving smiling faces everywhere. Asking people about their opinion on Dominic's music you will recognize that they have a hard time classifying it. You will often here the name Jr. Ewing, not only because they share the same national origin but also because of their success in combining energy and emotions to create some fresh Post-Hardcore that simply blows you away. Thinking 50 years into the future, you can easily imagine them shaking and stirring their nursing homes, if they will every be feeble enough to be pulled in those, that is." $14

All great stuff! Quantities are pretty limited on most of these and as most of you know, Denovali stuff usually goes quickly and is tough to restock due to the limited pressings. So get in on it =) You can also check out the rest of the awesome wares in the distro!
