scotterson
i was thinking about grabbing a pair of the Dr Dre Studio beats. anybody have a pair of those? My brother bought a pair of beats (not sure of model, but the were over ear phones) and returned them. He said they sounded good, but not good enough for the price, and were heavy. mattstrike
The Beats are a fucking joke. Unless you want to only listen to low frequencies. What kind of sound are you looking for? Accurate reproduction? Grado AKG Sennheiser You can get A LOT of headphone for $300 if you go Grado.

swank
I've been rolling exclusively with Sennheisers the past few years and they've never done me wrong. Wide range of sound, good quality.

sgoodcore
I have Sennheiser HD 280 pros and I love them. Very comfortable, they actually also can be folded in so they travel well too.
pjaicomo
Sony MDR-7506 is what I use. They sound great! Agreed. I will defer to mattsrike for audio quality. I like my Sonys but they do make my ears sore after a couple hours of listening (while I study). Don't know if that effects you.
thealex
Definitely check out the skullcandy hesh. A great value for the sound you get.
slinch
At the price point I'd definitely go for either AKG k701/702 ($250) or Beyerdynamic DT 880 ($290), followed closely by Sennheiser HD 595 ($200). Grado SR325is ($300) are also really good, but maybe a bit high on the budget (and in my opinion not worth it compared to AKGs, but it really depends on what you're listening to). Though you have to take into account that just buying a pair of cans isn't enough, at this price point a headphone amp is a must, otherwise you'll hardly get any better performance out of them than from a $100 pair.
