This is because those Crosley's are utter crap. They have an automatic shut off at a certain angle. When the tonearm gets close to the end of the record, it shuts off. Nothing to do with the needle. You probably jerked on it too hard and messed up the alignment.

Do yourself a favor and throw it away and buy a turntable.
