It depicts boats getting ready to set out on the lake at Argenteuil, a suburb of Paris to which Monet himself moved with his family in 1871. People Paintings At the center of the painting, we see a number of sail boats moored just off the banks of the lake. A person can be seen on one of the larger boats while a few spectators are standing on the bank. Building Paintings It is a beautiful summer day in Argenteuil, a blue sky and only a few small clouds. However, the early morning mist contributes to make the sky slightly grey. "The Regatta at Argenteuil" was painted by Claude Monet in 1872. Oil Paintings for sale After a brief stay in Paris, Monet moved his family out of the city to Argenteuil. A quiet and attractive town on the right bank of the Seine and on a regular railway stop, it was a popular retreat for weekend visitors. Famous Paintings During his first summer in this new location, Monet occupied himself with a familiar subject: boats in full sail under the summer sun.
