Formed in 2008 by members of Nanda Devi and Alter of Earth, CHASMA began as a side-project to experiment with yet another form of extreme metal. After writing and recording three songs, CHASMA released a demo tape with the French black metal label Aural Offerings and began performing live. After encouragement from Aural Offerings and the local Northwest metal scene, CHASMA made another recording that was released by Aural Offerings on tape and CD. After playing two years of shows with the likes of Wolves in the Throne Room, Bloody Panda, Trees, Thou, Nux Vomica, and Fell Voices, CHASMA guitarist Tony Komforty departed the project and was replaced by Klaus Maza of the LA crust band Sheeeeeeeep. "Musically, we are influenced by new millenium-era French black metal and DC screamo," says the band, "and bands like Weakling, Joyless, Ameseours, and Majority Rule. We are influenced by the intensity and passion of our brotherhood as musicians and try to express that passion through dimension bending riffs. We don't really fit the black metal label; we consider ourselves either noir nouveau ['new black'] or bright metal." This one rips from beginning to end, no doubt about it. If you dig black metal or better yet, if you dig the whole "Cascadian" black metal scene that is blowing up in the Pacific Northwest, this is your new jam. Fans of Wolves In The Throne Room and Agalloch take note! The packaging on this is sick as hell as well, a 20 pt stock SBS board jacket with a matte finish and silver foil stamping on the front houses the vinyl. The vinyl is nice and thick at 160 grams and we pressed 500 of them. 100 on translucent red vinyl with black streaks, 100 on white vinyl, only available in indie record stores, 100 on gold vinyl only available through the band, and 200 on black vinyl. There's also a double sided insert with lyrics and liner notes and all preorders will include a download coupon that contains a code for a secret bonus track! Jump on it, get right witcha self!! We're releasing this on vinyl in conjunction with Moribund Records releasing the CD. Chasma online: Facebook Tumblr Soundcloud
