PO: Maps & Atlases - Beware and Be Grateful

Recommended Posts

I love all M&A albums but they've always taken several listens to really grow on me. I really love the track 'Winter' so far on this one.

I don't think this will be limited since YAMATM and perch patchwork both weren't, and Barsuk tends to press a lot of vinyl.

The whole album can be streamed here:

(although if you've never heard this band it's best to start with Trees, Swallows, Houses and have your mind truly blown)

I absolutely love everything Maps&Atlases have put out since Trees, I would even call them one of my favorite bands but this album just doesn't really do it for me and is definitely a let down compared to my expectations for the follow up to Perch Patchwork. It's good, don't get me wrong, but it's nothing compared to previous works and if it wasn't by M&A it's probably not something I would listen to. I do like a few songs a lot but overall I don't care to listen to it over and over like with everything else by them.

This. I want them to get mathy again, but they're probably going to head into this poppier stuff they've been doing. I feel like with Trees/You and me that they had the perfect balance of mathy guitars with pop vocals, which is why I enjoyed them so much when I first started listening. This record feels very "safe", and there's not a whole lot that interests me enough to listen to more than a few times. :/
