VeganJustin
Hey guys, one of bestbuy.com 's deal of the day is a turntable, my coworker says the brand is a good one, this would be my first turntable so I wanted to know if anyone could tell me if this is a good product or not. Thanks Here's the link http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail.jsp?skuId=6637641&pid=1206141491964 stuffsux00

BWALL
Nope, post your local Craig's list and we can find you a better table. These tables track heavy and have cheap ceramic carts so they put more wear on your records.
allenh
should be brown to match its quality. Be wary of buying just by brand, just because a company makes some good items does not mean everything they put thier name on is good, a lot of these companies put thier name on all sorts of plastic rubbish thinking that thier good reputation will sell them but quite often it just lowers that good reputation. WalnutSoap
As a first player, this should serve your needs well: http://nh.craigslist.org/ele/4212294174.html Unfortunately it looks like the automatic needle return no longer works, but this is hardly a deal breaker - most audophile tables don't even have this feature anymore as standard. Might not still be available - worth hitting them up though just in case. Otherwise, there's this: http://nh.craigslist.org/ele/4269777024.html EDIT: You'll need a pre-amp for both of these I believe, unless there's one in your reciever. There's one built-in on the Denon player, but not on either of these. VeganJustin
psus2h
The Dennon 400F and the Pro ject debut III should be two that you look at for new entry level tables IMO

kidamnesiac
That Technics would be a great place to start, but you'd probably want to put a new cartridge/stylus on it. And as was also already stated, you'll need a preamp or a receiver with one built in. http://boards.vinylcollective.com/forum/6-turntables-other-audio-equipment/ For future reference. allenh
thanks! trying to go decently cheap for now, otherwise I won't be able to afford rent so probably gonna have to build this 1 piece at a time Go vintage for now then but factor in you might need a new stylus and or cartridge, there are quite a few cheap ones that are perfectly good for a first turntable and a lot of info and videos about on how to fit them and set up your turntable properly. Have a look in the local thrift stores and ask around with friends and family, you might turn something up for nothing or next to nothing. WubbyWubby
Also check the shopgoodwill auction page. You can usually score some decent vintage gear on there but the "higher-end" vintage stuff usually goes for a pretty penny. stl_ben
